Just had my first session with the Slick Pod, had some good chats with Rick before I pulled the trigger to buy which gave me comfort
The Pod looks good, well designed & fits real snug on the mast
First impressions, so much nicer to carry the Foil Drive & board over my shoulder down to the beach with out the bulb
Got going much faster than previously both before popping up and after the pop up when I can sink the board back down as I stand.
Where I felt it the most was doing turns onto a wave where I am having the props in the water, previously it would bog down but now it just rips around.
I had a great time & could almost call it a game changer
Great to see someone create something which improves an already great thing in the Foil Drive & make it better

i wonder how all the new mini pods coming out will affect the integrated mast realm. the cost differences are staggering and you still have height flexibility with the minis.

No argument they are an improvement BUT you still have an external cable (not internal) on the back of the mast that needs to be taped on which affects the foil profile of the mast and water turbulence to the prop and a strap or zip tie around the front of the mast that does the same , these also move. The only real way to feel the difference is to ride them back to back. Once you have done that it turns into a take my money moment. The 17 or 18cm height on the intergrated are so slippery you just dont feel it and you'll never need to change it. This isn't a sales pitch but real time feedback from someone that has ridden every single brand.

We're in a cost of frothing crisis.

At my local in Broulee 2 weeks ago and there were 3 Tow Boogies in the water.... what are they, $12k each?? Riding boards that are probably worth another $2.5 and foils add another $3.5k.
Add to that the $9k ish for foil drives and you can certainly say it's a rich persons sport.

It makes golf club membership or green fees seem cheap.

So epic. Really well done vid and music. We have good foiling conditions, but that was off the hook. Barrels in the background means I know how fast you were going and at the end, ouch!

i'm about 90 kgs and use the Armstrong MA 990 for foil driving. I started FDing with the HA 1180, but that felt crazy unstable to me (and my friends). sometimes i think even that 990 has too much lift for me with the FD, and once on foil it still feels fairly unstable side-to-side. Assuming it's an equipment problem and not the rider (a big assumption) do you think a 770 UHA would be the next step, or is that too small for FD at my weight? I've tried the 780 HA with FD but couldn't even get on foil with it so worried UHA 770 might have same issue, but think UHA 870 may overlap with MA 990 too much.

If the 780HA was a hard start I don't think the 770 UHA would be the pick . I'd be looking the 790 MA and with the 200 Surf then work your way down from there . The MA are by far the easiest to use over the whole spectrum, very balanced forgiving foils .
