Hi everyone! A couple of months ago I asked seabreeze users if there was a way to extend your carbon mast. Apparently, these are reserved for factory riders. So I did my homework and made my own! It's called FOILSLEEVE and bolts to your gofoil to extend it by up to 15cm. It's machined from solid aluminium and costs $250 AUD - the fraction of the cost of a new carbon mast. Keen to know what you think

Check it out at www.foilsleeve.com

Seems like a good idea, but I'd be worried to use it to extend a short mast, especially when using a big foil, due to the extra torque/force from the extended length. The GoFoil small mast is thinner than the longer masts and might not be able to withstand the extra force when turning or being pummeled in surf.

An extra piece adding complexity, potential movement points and potential failure points. Sorry, just giving one person's opinion.

Cool idea how it doubles as a grab handle, be good to see one that also doubles as a plate adapter as well , that would save a fair bit of weight plus eliminate one extra part and should be way more cost-effective than buying two separate parts.

I am impressed!

Will it work with any brand?

That's a great idea

Can you put a diagram with angles and dimensions on the web site? That we can measure our gear and know it will fit.

Will the sleeve fit a Deep Tuttle mast head? How deep is the slot? My Gofoil heads are 60mm deep. My Deep Tuttle heads are 68mm.

I am assuming the top of the sleeve will fit into a Deep Tuttle slot with the taper holding it in place. There will be a bit of a gap at the top, but that is normal and handled by having long enough screws. Is this correct in terms of the sleeve? How deep is the head of the sleeve?

Can you tell us anything about the anodizing? Our experience is that not all anodizing is the same. Some anodizing stays on. Others scrapes off. What kind of anodizing process do you use?

Hi - I've been using a FOILSLEEVE on my short gofoil mast for the past few weeks testing - wing foiling and SUP surf. the foil feels completely stable and very predicable. No adverse effects - just a heap more usable range which is AWESOME for wing'ing! Feels like we have got no where near the limit.

Hi Piros! This is actually a hangover from when I used to use different shims under my adaptor plate to play with foil angles! they are just super strong... but you are right - i'll change 'em

Hi Piros - yup, it's a great handle! We figured a lot of people already have adaptor plates, so no point buying twice. Also not sure how we could machine the whole deal from a single billet? Possible, maybe...but pretty complex!

Thanks Ausiet! We designed it around the gofoil tuttle which is 60mm deep with bolt holes 105mm from centre to centre. The male end of the FOILSLEEVE is an exact copy of the gofoil male end, and 0.5mm thinner than the universal tuttle box width. Many foils are built to this universal dimensions, but please check your tuttle box bolt holes are 105mm from centre to centre!

Hi there - well, yup, it's definitely an extra piece ;-) But FOILSLEEVE is machined from a single billet of alu so it's super-strong. But we're trying to solve a specific problem here: having got into the sport, many people want longer masts, but simply can't spend ANOTHER $1200 on a new one. We can help with that - make the most use the gear you've got.

FOILSLEEVE is made from T6 6061 aluminium billet and anodised to international marine grade at 25 microns.
