Hi Guys & Girls,
Thought I'd post my version of a land stand up paddle. It only cost me $40 to make and I'm sure there are cheaper versions out there but this one works well for me.
First up I found a old JP Australia adjustable SUP paddle on gumtree for $20. I cut the paddle of at the base with a hacksaw. (Killed me doing it but I feel I've given the paddle a new life.. lol)
Then I rattled my brain to think of something I could use as a rubber foot on the base. And I remembered a chew toy we had for our dog. So I brought a KONG treat toy from petbarn and with some liquid nails glued it to the base of the shaft. The Kong chew toy has a perfect sized hole at the base to place in the treats that fits snuggly over the shaft. And the rubber is pretty heavy duty so it should last for awhile. And is easy enough to replace when it gets too warn.
Once the liquid nails had set I'm pretty much ready to roll. Took it out for a test run with my board and it works well. The rubber kong grips well and as it looses its gloss and roughes up a bit it gets a bit more grippy. Went for a long paddle and got a really good ab workout. Looking forward to taking it out to site with me as I work FIFO and I'm away from the water for 2 Weeks at a time.
Thinking of painting the shaft then covering it in stickers but enjoying it for what it is at the moment.
