Still in crowd fund mode, no vids of a working example yet. The specs look great but the V2 would be a better option after they iron out the glitches.

Seems like a capable company.
I really like some of their ideas and the controller for there other boards looks very nice.

The sceptic in me has some reservations. The only video I saw has a foiler flying but the cable is not even connected... To me It seems the early buyers might be the real beta testers.

Why is that?

Electric foils are really complicated, would take ages to iron out all the bugs. Crowd funding will require bringing the item to market as quick as possible as funders are waiting for their product hence not a lot of time for good development.

Just look at Foildrive, heaps of upgrades over the years, the latest Plus is vastly different to the original assist.

Yep, hence I've seen all the upgrades. The Gen2 looks good but will let bugs get ironed out before I try one.
The Manta offering looks good but let's wait until the bugs are fixed, oh, and is availably for sale. It needs enough power for prone, or it's a toy.

I'm confused , They both have bugs

Sounds like we should get the exterminator in.

A good old fashion race to sort out the bugs.

We haven't talked about Stoke foiling boost yet.

Stoke doesn't prone so only a toy, battery is too small.

Clean cable management no tape , doesn't look too clean to me ???? Plus they offer a surface mount antenna so not so sleek have a look at the pics and this thing is massive and shaped like a brick compared to the Gen 2 max plus a couple of KG heavier.

Full carbon boards and tracks don't transmit the signal. FoilDrive is working on an antenna mount also.

No that's wrong FD work on full carbon boards I have one it was only a some people had an issue with the Armstrong with carbon boxes but some extra foam solved that .FD's main outstanding feature is it's connectivity , it's industry leading even better than Fliteboard & Lift . Paul is a very smart man and the way he does this is very protected and can't be copied . People are trying but they just can't work out how he did it . Aussie Aussie Aussie .

thank Rob for that clarification. Any idea if the v2 Foil Drive works with the inflatable Gong Carbon Cruzader base plate?

Sorry not quite right , working on prone version carbon board and tracks however issues with Sup & Ding with the Armstrong & Takuma Sunrise carbon board & tracks . The solution will be a non powered antenna between the FD and board and run onto the deck . Re the inflatable boards yes a few people are running them with no issues .

I took the plunge the price is to good $3900 aud delivered. For that price I'll take the risk.

Agreed it's wider and looks more draggy then the foil drive, but they have a prone board in the works due out in August were the takeoff sits flush with the bottom of the board.

A few positives l like about it are -

Motor pods is adjustable ( no extra purchases )
44v battery architecture that's travel compliant
talk of including both 2 and 3 blade props.

I've also placed an order with Manta to upgrade from well used awesome Gen 1 FD. I'm still deciding whether to cancel. I placed the order for the reasons islandhome listed and also an extra 4kg thrust from my Gen 1 Foil drive.

apprehensive about;
- poor communications
- they don't seem to be designing coming from surf orientated background
- larger and heavier unit
- larger motor/pod
- having a bloody great brick under my board surely will mess with take offs so the added grunt is lost in lack of planing?

Do I need to change from FD gen 1
- foil drive customer service is second to none (19+ months of support) and I live the other side of the world to them
- gen 1 FD looks kooky/ DIY and there's a fair chance you can break something but it works great. I've progressed loads the last 19 months. I don't pump a whole lot so the battery on top doesn't bother me too much.

-Gen 2 FD was just too expensive, I tried to justify it but couldn't

- The new flite board Jet would be amazing but that's going to cost more than Gen 2 FD

Exciting times! A middle class problem but I'm still not sure the Manta will be an upgrade and could be a can of worms! Any other buyer concerns?

Yes I paid the $25 vip price but then it turned into a crowdfunder and they haven't even decided on the width and thickness of the unit yet.
I think they are using the crowdfunder as testers which I am not prepared to pay for. foildrive sent loads of units out to good riders pre production to make sure it worked and do any tweaks before selling to public. yes foildrive is expensive but you know it works. the manta is a pure gamble

im saving my money and when I've got enough will go for Foil drive I think, in meantime I'm using my arms and the wing

I'm also an initial indiegogo backer and for the highly discounted launch price I thought it was worth a gamble.
I've also ordered one of their custom boards where the unit will sit in a recess on the bottom of the board so the only thing projecting underneath will be my mast with the motor pod and the flat ribbon cable (fully adjustable) housed inside an alloy micro-mast housing.
My Foildrive Assist plus has been a great tool however I use it infrequently and it is definitely a hassle to set up and dismount every time I want to use it and having the box on top of the board makes using it on my small prone board a hassle for foot placement.
The Manta will be a permanent setup with a dedicated board and mast so all I'll need to do is choose my foils for the session and click in a charged battery.
It will be interesting to see where Fliteboard price the Ampjet system
