Does anyone have any opinions on the new stiffer lift X2 masts that just dropped? I'm tempted...

The X2 masts are exactly the same $$$ as their "classic" masts of the same size on their website. Weird

Has anyone seen the width dimensions of the mast? They reference that its thicker than the standard but can anyone put numbers to that (for that matter, I dont actually know the thickness on the standard mast either)?

Not totally surprised that its the same price - they reference that its the same materials, just thicker.

Soo... I just received the X2 mast in the mail and had a session on it + 150 hax. First impressions it's definitely stiffer.

I measured the best I could with a dial caliper that doesn't quite reach the thickest part of the foil section:

Original: 15mm profile thickness, 117mm chord, 1648g
X2: 17mm profile thickness, 127mm chord, 1726g

Both masts are 32".

Going off the drag equation, and assuming the coefficient of drag is the same for both foil sections, the new X2 mast should have 13% more drag because drag is proportional to frontal area.

I had a look at one the other day at a shop but am undecided what to do regarding a mast for the 150hax. Thought it looked kinda thick so am continuing to use an Axis 19mm aluminum which is working great with the foil parts adapter. The 150 just rips so with at least half the mast out of the water drag is a non issue. Notice it a little as you go deeper.

Still the X2 is probably the best deal going in a 'stiffer' mast. Hoping Cedrus or No Limitz comes out with something universal and fantastic soon or I'll just stick with what I own.

Thatspec I haven't ridden them back to back properly, but I subjectivly felt a bit more drag. But the X2 is certainly stiffer when trying bend the mast (using my uncalibrated hands ).

The 150 hax is a special wing for sure!

With the best materials and methods masts can be made thin and stiff and light, but it is expensive to manufacture. Everything is a compromise and each manufacturer makes their relative compromises around performance and cost. In theory the thicker masts are made stiff by their size and not so much the materials and methods.

Beware the thicker masts that are relatively expensive because they shouldn't really be.

Maybe lift have gone for a balance between affordable and performance. A little stiffer with a little increase in size and not such exotic materials and methods to keep the price the same. We all must decide how much performance we need and can afford.
