Hillys. I was standing in sup shop freo cash ready to buy foil and sup setup after watching media stuff. Thought I'd ask on here first and got good feedback. Then i took a trip up north and first time surfed and sailed right next to foilers. I'm understanding foiling takes time to learn but I'm not seeing what is being described yet. Only 2 prone guys at sunset made it look amazing and were picking up on just the hint of a wave so real benefit and they were carving too. The sup and wingding I have seen so far actually on the water have not lived up to what I'm seeing on media and that was what I was worried about before I lay out $5k. I do remember the owner of starboard forward looping one of their huge learner windsurf boards as promo. Very unrealistic for normal people. Also I made clear in my first post in not a flat water person. It looks passive on the wave but as mentioned above is all happening under water and feeling it. So no trolling.
You made a personnel comment on me calling me a bash and crash kook. I took it as a pisstake so replied in kind. Then you've gone for dick swing now and calling me a troll.
So show me that community spirt instead of the kook & troll comments and big dick wave comparisons and meet me for a friendly coffee to discuss foiling.I live around the corner from your work if your still at duncraig.
So you are basing your purchasing decision on what you see in the media - the pros. Then you are worried looking at average joe blows on the water don't match what you see from professionals promoting products.
How many average joe blows throw down what the pros do in any water sport?
was one of the prone foilers at sunsets a young bloke? Watched him rip margs main break to pieces on a prone board / wing and then do huge jumps on the way out. But he's a water baby through and through with more time to be in the water than anyone I know.
So today my son and I proned in the morning whilst a jet ski towed us at intervals into waves. Then this arvo we winged a good wave for a couple of hours. My son sink starts a tiny 4.0 prone board and was using the wing to get on a wave then riding and pumping the wave for 100-200m or so connecting up swell lines in between sections. It was good to watch I suppose. Give him some straps and he'll be throwing stuff down and he's a really competent freestyle unhook spider monkey. Could one day be doing those pro videos but the little prick learnt to kite at the age of 6!! He's now 13 and already better than most of us kooks
But for the rest of us ... it's just the pure fun and technical challenge of riding a foil in swell and waves (or even bashing around on the flats). The speed, the glide, the massively long rides, and adaptability to differing conditions. It makes surfboard kiting, TT riding, wind surfing etc feel agricultural. It turns crappy surf to into awesomeness.
Like driving a tractor then getting in a sports car.
I just question your motivations: using comparative professional promotional videos and average joe blows as a basis for your decision making.
It's just a bit weird bro.
