Got a few minutes read this disclaimer from the Go Foil web site . Pretty full on. They actually have a weight limit of 215lbs (97kg) for rider warranty , glad I lost weight Plenty of other interesting bits as well.

Hmmmmmm, interesting.

Dealers beware here, as consumer law in Australia is 12 months for warranty. I'd be very careful on selling a product knowing I had to warrant it for 12 but the supplier will only cover for 6 months.

What are u guys trying to suggest? Go Foil is not a reputible company? Haven't seen Go Foil coping any one elses ideas but plenty people measuring up there stuff. They are a buiness so they are able to try protect themselves. Keep it real people......

Yeah I know heaps of guys surfing the 200 in small waves , its a great small wave foil and also helps learning to use it down winding. Seems strange as Go Foil has been posting videos of guys surfing it and saying how good it is in small waves ?????

Scotty not having a crack at Go Foil or it's product , it's a great foil but you have to admit that is one hell of a disclaimer.

I bought a brand new Gofoil maliko 200
6 sessions in and hair line cracks started around mast to fuse......no impacts only used in waist high rolling waves.
Was told not warranty! Only warranty if completely snaps off.
Finally got my money back.

The warranty language on every foil I have looked at has some dodgy bits on it. Lots of don't take this 'surf' foil into actual breaking surf and such non-sense. They all have tons of outs, what really matters is if a company has a reputation for being generous in honoring warranties or giving customers grief. I can say Ke Nalu was good to me about honoring their warranty when it came to a defective part and they deserve that shout out. I haven't heard any griping from Go Foil owners in regards to warranty claims either but if they are out there I'm sure they will come out of the woodwork.

The cracks were in the gel/filler coat, but if you needed to sell the foil for any reason with cracks the value would be greatly reduced.

Fair enough. I guess everyone has to weigh up each brand and design and work out what is important to them. I am heavy myself so i certainily steered clear of the aluminuim masts as a few of those have been bent. But i get what you mean. Overall they are still a very good foil.

Well, it is good advice.

The Warrantable thing is a very tricky issue. Generally what the major companies will be trying to protect you from is faults due to manufacturing or materials. Anything that occurs from use is generally not covered unless it can be related to the above.

When a company says not warrantable for use in waves/surf, they mean it is not designed to be leashed out in the line up, or to withstand being rolled in the impact zone like an item specifically designed for surfing is. However, I think you will find if your product was found to have a manufacturing or material fault you will be covered in majority of cases.

It is something that is not often understood. The surf industry laughs at us, as warranties on surfboards is petty much unheard of.

Important information required to submit a claim for warranty,

1. Date of original purchase - i.e. is it still under warranty. (Australia is 12months). Original receipts are required.
2. What is the issue - "It broke" is not an issue. The manufacturer will want to know what has actually failed. Dry laminates, delaminations or simple factory faults (missing items), and how is this issue affecting the product.
3. Determining how it failed - Was the issue a result of over-stressing, miss-use, climate (heat), wear and tear or did it just legitimately fail (i.e. warranty).
4. Clear photos showing the "issue", the serial number and context to help understand the use prior and during the fault will help speed up the process.

The big thing with legitimate Manufacturing and Material faults is, they generally show their face early, well before the warranty period finishes. If an item has been used several times and not failed in those first few uses, it is generally ok from a manufacturing point stand point. "Generally"!!

Every brand has warranties, every brand experiences issues. Some handle them well, and some ......

Understanding what is covered though is important. Some have an understanding that if it breaks within 1 year, then it's warranty. This is not necessarily the case.

Spider Cracks
Normal Wear of your Go Foil also includes cosmetic cracks close to the fuselage mast connection area, please note the picture of a Mast that is over a year old . These are due to high stress loads directly in this area. These can appear as surface tiny splits in the outside thin layer of fiberglass, fillers and/or the paints used. These are more noticeable when salt crystals dry in these "spider cracks". These are appearing on most foils over time but will not break or cause any performance issues because of the many layers of Carbon inside this area .
In the event that your mast does break totally in this area, we will send you a new mast as a replacement as per our warranty guidelines. These cracks can be lightly sanded and repainted to make them look new again and have less chance of reappearing.

it's just the Gel coat on the outside.... I've sold over 100 GoFoils & haven't had any problems with warranties.... If there has been any concerns about the hairline cracks in the Gel coat GoFoil have said to note the date with photos & keep an eye on it but so far no issues with GoFoil...

Have two sets of GoFoils. The foil with the Iwa and Maliko 200 wings developed cracks on the fuse/mast and paint chips on the front of the mast. They're small rash chips that flaked off while bending. The set with the Kai wing has developed the paint chips on the front of the mast but haven't seen cracks near the fuse/mast. I'm 82kg, use the big wings to SUP and Wind-Foil and the Kai to kite with. It's very disappointing to spend this much money on a foil patented to "flex" that then develops chips and cracks in the gel/paint, whatever. Check the standupzone USA forum for other experiences on this.

I do love the foils though. Bought the second set just because of how good they ride AFTER the first developed issues. Not sure I'd buy another one until these issues are resolved though. Would love to try the Cloud9 foils next.

I've been using them EXACTLY as GoFoil recommends these foils to be used.

Please check the USA standup forum where other people used them only for SUP and had issues. It's not just me. I understand that the company is small and might not have the Naish/Slingshot funds for warranty replacements. You get to talk directly to the designer with any issues. But damn if spending $4k on new gear and getting chips and stress cracks within a few sessions doesn't bum one out. I've barely used these foils windsurfing and SUP'ing, handful of times! I mostly kite with the Kai/Iwa and I barely stress them because they're my super light wind gear from 6-15mph anything more and I'm on a surfboard. SUP and Windsurfing is where the big stress is at.

Like I said, I LOVE these f***ing things! I wouldn't have bought another one if I didn't love the ride. But some of the design should be reworked.

FOILS are addictive. Like Cr-ck.

I have only EVER bought a NEW SUP Once (1 X) in 9 years. I have a garage full of SUP's but would buy them used because I didn't want to spend $1,500 USD on each new board. Some people might say I am parsimonious.

When the foils came out I dropped $1,800 TWICE - $3,600 USD in less than a year on 2 sets of GoFoils. Then there was the amount I spent to modify my first board, then buy the 2nd board, and the 3rd board. . . .

I've resisted the urge to post about my GoFOil fuse cracks, as I've been having a conversation with my retailer who's helping me out with a solution. Great reason to buy local!

As Scubaste notes - there's damage arising from loss of resale that needs to be addressed, and Australia provides substantial protection for consumers which overrides any manufacture's attempt at disclaimer. Consumer guarantees are available in NSW through Dept of Fair Trading actions, the liability for which always rests with the retailer - you can't be hand-balled to an O/S manufacturer.

Sorry for the legal speak - short story is talk with your foil shop and come up with reasonable outcome (or buy offshore on-line at your own risk). I've huge respect for what Alex Aguera has achieved with the GoFoil design, and I'm looking forward to using the beefed up 29" mast!

I found a crack in the top of the Tuttle head between the screw attachment points and submitted a claim to GoFoil through my retailer ( Jimmy Lewis Australia) here in Australia. My retailer was fantastic and GoFoil replaced the mast without any questions, great service by both. GoFoil also advised that if I rebated the crack, it would be fine and I'm still using it without any issues.
In my opinion whilst the surface cracks in the mast fuselage junction are unfortunate in a high quality and price item, they aren't structural and don't affect the performance in any way.
I've run my foils over the reef coming in and out of Waikiki beach and after a minor body filler and spray paint the wings are as new. It's still one of the best if not the best on the market for ease of use with minimal maintenance.
What id like to see though would be a removable fuselage from the mast to make traveling easier to pack down, but then one might lose the rigidity. Also the ability to buy any tail and or wing separately would be nice.

Yeah, it would be nice if mast/fuse/wing connections were easier to do on the GoFoil. Perhaps one day we'll get the foil connections down to a few standards like board fins but doubtful. Took them long enough just to agree on the 90mm width for track mounts. Would be nice to mix and match different brand parts based on what one's looking for and not having to upgrade the whole foil. Perhaps if a major brand created a foil that worked really well, attained a following and opened up the standards?
