I am attempting to diy an homage to the gofoil gl210. Dead flat for ease of production.

for those who have made their own wings for SUP or surf foiling, I'm curious how many layers of fiberglass cloth or carbon you used on the top and bottom? More is stronger but heavier of course. Less is lighter but weaker. So where's the balance point?

I did one with something like 10-12 layers of glass when I made my original test wing. I really needed to do it with at least some carbon. It feels too light and fragile to be honest. I'm about to do some testing before starting another one and I'll share what I figure out if I get around to it.

Such a good wing to copy, its a beast to tame on lumpy days but its soo much fun. Wish I could make wings as gf stuff are so expensive compare to axis value for money foils.

Ive got those glider wings I'm planning on doing....

I'm planning on least 6 layers of 6oz carbon a side. I'll severely reinforce the area where the fuse plugs in and stagger the reinforcement outwards. I will alternate layers between 0 and 45 degree bias to stop twisting spanwise.

i was thinking of skinning it with one layer then digging out the rear 2" or so of the trailing edge and tips to backfill with chopped carbon....... Continuing the schedule from there. I've seen a guy do the glider wing thing but it was lightly carboned and no backfill. The wing delamed and broke up from the TE.

you really have to bag this, it's the only way to get that much weave to sit down, and to remove weak voids and pools of resin.

Thanks, 6 layers minimum, up to 10. I have vacuum.

Wing is divinycell with glass on one side. I planned the foil angle using lines like for surfboard rail shaping. I set it as roughly one third of width for front rise and two thirds for rear drop. About 15mm thick at thickest point.

Made a socket for the fuselage using mold release advice from clamsmasha. About 10 layers carbon and glass. Carved a channel and glassed it in flat. Such a relief that it went on flat and square.

Next steps.... glassing.

Nice one man, I'm frothing to make mine....just waiting on some carbon. I'll be making something like a 140 for the surf and a very thin very long very HA wing for other stuff.

Even if it takes a couple of goes to get it right (though you'll probably get it right anyway) it's a lot cheaper!

Yeah fun and cheap, why not. I made kite foil Wings from g10...super easy, just sand them. I borrowed a huge g10 wing made for windsurf foil....was insanely fast. That was before the high aspect trend. But it also weighed 10lbs! So, now attempting much the same with lighter material...and even if twice as heavy as a pro one, itll be better than what I had. ;-)

For sure, I mean the old M200 and even Iwa were pretty heavy and they went fine. I'm not so weight obsessed since getting on high aspect. They just carry more weight, including their own without struggling.

I just used plywood to shape and painted it black. One single layer of carbon is all I used, but probably 4 layers of epoxy to fully seal the wood. No it is not going to bend.
Came up pretty good but is heavy... Helps to keep balance but not really at takeoff. Works great to test out the shape.
Haven't got a picture of the foil when done but a few in progress ones.

My DIY GL210. Made last year but I am embarrassed to say still not tested as after finishing I bought a GL210 wing. I sized and shaped it entirely from pictures and it has come out remarkable similar. I also made a GL stab copy. The bottom picture is it next to a GL210. No idea what it will fly like. I have earmarked it for testing in the next few weeks.

Once this one is done I was thinking of doing a GL140 homage too. Seeing above, maybe I will try doing it out of plywood, for S***s and giggles. If aiming for dead flat, that's a pretty ease base to work with.
