Anyone actually chopped the V tail to get rid of the tips? If so performance changes ? Good or bad.

Yep, chopped mine a while ago, can't say I notice any difference tbh, some say it takes the wobble out, but I think mast position is more important for that.

I chopped mine as well. Not a massive difference for me either, but one thing I may have noticed is less breaching through the turns; ie can turn a bit harder without the front wing wanting to breach. Its subtle but I believe it is there.

Removing the tips definitely stiffens up the tail and gets rid of that flex , giving that unsettled feeling and feeling way more at home on my 1250 & 1550 V2 . Still didn't like it on the 1125.

You gotta learn to love the 1125 Piros ?? Maybe the 925 will be for you ?

Ah good info. I suspected it might. Finding on sharp turns it can suddenly track then release all of a sudden. Probably a function of those tips.

then when pumping - you have a good cadence running then out of nowhere - it springs back in a weird unsettled way that could be called a minor yaw type feel. Unsettled was a good word used. Especially Noticeable when pumping high on a longer 85 mast. This probably a function of the flex in those tips

Love the tail except for the above. And it seems to happen randomnly.


I chopped and thinned out my 232 the other day. Faster and looser but it still feels a little "dead" or muted compared to the V tail. Its that dihedral plus much thicker profile causing its relative lethargy probably.

For me I had the same wobbly experience when I first used the v tail , others chopped the tips off and found that fixed it. I found by putting the mast at the back of the tracks did the same thing and got rid of the wobble as well as the stuck in a turn tracking feeling that you get from HA wings.So for me it solved 2 problems and I didn't lose any pump and still had more than enough lift but also more control. It's the opposite of where I put the mast for all other HS wings which is full forward.

Wouldnt putting mast right back mean you have to be back foot heavy to keep the front of the foil up. Or is that the intention. ?

I can speculate why it reduces the wobble - having pressure on your back foot all the time pushes that back V tail through the turns without letting it loose, then grip again and release.
No way my mast is going any further back if anything as forward as i can.



anyhow just to confirm lads. is the pumping compromised by chopping those tips off ??

I ride with the 50 fuse ,which for me improves the pump and turning and I can more easily control the pitch , which might explain why I like the mast right back and have no issues.

Ah yeh that could be it. Love to try a 50 fuse actually when im good enough.

Doesn't take that long to get used to 50 , bit of a shock at first but then cant live without it

You're already good enough. When there's no wind I mostly wake foil. I picked one up with the 1550 V2 and V tail and was concerned that it would be too twitchy but I love it. First ride on it and I was happy. I haven't used it with the ding but it is great for surfing.

Well if you saw me proning the other day (dropped down from 41 - a 35 litre board) you may change your "I'm ready" lol. Was total kookville.
