It's all about muscle memory versus mind memory.
In my view change from one discipline to the other often. That gets the mind ready to recognise the changes to adjust from one to the other. And the muscles will stay in tune with the changes to be able to adjust quicker.
After staying away from the SUP for a long time due to SUP foiling I nose dived the SUP on the first couple of waves. This is now instilled in my head to step back towards the back pad just as I catch a wave.
Also stability is reduced for both SUP & Foil SUP on the change over. Now it only lasts for around 10 minutes as I consciously relax my legs & feet.
SUP foiling really helped with having to be more in a surf stance before catching a wave. I forced myself to get used to being in a surf stance when foiling so that my back foot was over the mast always. So now when I go SUP surfing I am comfortable paddling around in a half surf stance & getting to a full surf stance before catching a wave which definitely made catching a wave easier.
I am now winging more often & have left both SUP & SUP foiling behind until I have mastered the basics.
But I look forward to the challenges & stoke going back.
And yes prone surfing is getting harder & harder for me due to age, fitness & back & neck injuries. But hey, I am stoked if I get up on a nice wave. Feels like riding it on a little skateboard.

Too many challenges & not enough time.
