Tried a few different alu and carbon foils over the past 2 years but not axis. Picked up a decent used s series to try...given all the great reviews. What's the deal with water getting in the mast at both fuselage and base plate ends? It went outstanding.....but shocked at the water in it....and the extra piece to attach mast to fuselage....why?!

The doodad is the price you pay for a solid connection to the fuse. The water leaking out is the price you pay for aluminum. ??

19mm or 16mm?

'18 and '19 were flow through masts, so they dried overnight. You drain and rinse after each session.
'20 was sealed both ends, and so far, maybe 20 days, has not leaked.

Thanks for the info Hdip. My old fanatic didn't leak a drop and single piece.

Love how the axis handles but can't handle the water in mast factor. Surprised I never read this in any reviews. I don't know how people put up with the hassle....

Do you mean the water trapped at both ends where there's a cavity for the doodad and the Tuttle?that's entirely normal by design.

Some people have also experienced leaky masts inside as well. I've put some epoxy at the bottom of the 2 cavities.

Why do you find it a hassle ? Never bothered me .

I sealed up a Konrad foil mast about 2 years ago. Guess I'll just have to that again. I was just surprised to see axis, and this far down the progressive track, to have such a leaky design.

Eppo, once you've had a set up that doesn't leak mast water, it's like going up to business class.....you just can't face going back.

I suspect I've progressed to just getting an Armstrong.....but I just wanted to have a foil 'journey' before I got there....which I've enjoyed.

The Axis mast do come with rubber bungs inside the mast to fill the voids, yours being second hand may be leaking just re-seal with Sikaflex if that's the case pretty simple fix.

In mine the salt water would come out after it was washed and corrode the ali badly.

It really does handle fantastic. I'll goop it up but you have that strange extra bit from mast to fuselage leaving a cavity that u really can't seal...and stores water. Why they couldn't come up with a single piece connection is baffling.

But, first world problem. Foiling has been an absolute blessing and saved a nearing 50yo surfer Peter Pan in denial from going into a straight jacket

Well yeh I suppose your right. I'm on Armstrong now and it's superior in every way as far as I'm concerned. But still maintain it's an excellent product and rides really well
I did notice the water but figured it wasn't a deal breaker for me. Kind of a limited issue. What eventually pissed me off was the excessive changes and range in a stupid fast turn over time frame. . Some see the benefit in that, to me it just confused the hell out of me and I figured I'd spend just as much or even more buying the next bloody wing or fuseslage or series that was getting pumped out Willy nilly. But as I said some dig that constant innovation and that's cool and understandable to a degree.

Which fuse do you have? The red fuse has recesses to save weight in the front wing connection that also store water. Loosen the screws a tiny bit and drain the water from there after every session too.

I did notice water in that front wing section too....so it only holds water in 3 places then. Don't think I'll keep it. My hat is off to everyone who has the patience for that.

you can fill some of those spaces with expanding foam (wing attachment on fuse, and holes in doodad) also I used a piece of aluminum can to shim the doodad so it stays in the fuse.

The doodad attachment makes it so you can use a 19mm, 16mm, and/or carbon mast with the same fuse.

the mast should be sealed inside, so the amount of water should be pretty small.

I'd also recommend not using a wetsuit, as those things just soak up tons of water!

You obviously have more time on your hands and patience bigmtn than I ever will. I can only assume you've never had a foil that doesn't leak water.

Any foil that leaks in 3 places is a dud. Shame....it really does go well but the engineering kills it.

And the wetsuit reference, given I don't have to pull it apart after every session....makes no sense. But good luck with your leaky set up....

On the contrary. I've had Armstrong, gofoil, signature, gong, and naish setups. Axis for well over a year, and not once did I think a little water dribble was an issue. I can only assume you bought a dud... But go ahead and carry on with your complaining.

A mega leak of........ maybe 1/4 a shot glass from the mast ends.

Ride GoFoil, problem solved.

I fear I may have unintentionally opened a can of worms. My apologies. Poor form by me. No excuses.....I was sitting in the backyard last night with a fire and single malt whiskey....if it's any consolation. I rode the axis again today it really is the most outstanding I've ever ridden. I'm just trying a new routine with it where I use the electronic screwdriver to loosen all the bolts at the car after a session. It's then good for a full hose flush at home.

See how that goes.....

Yep exactly that is where a bit of water leaks out after session,some may think that it's in the mast but it actually in those voids

no mate it is a fair question and worth discussing.

but honestly as I said way above in this thread is it that much of an issue? People will use it to brand bash and offer the alternative that they use. That's human nature I'm afraid.

I slopped that nasty Ted gel on and didn't pull it apart for 6 months. No issues except a little bit of water dribble down the mast.
well that's not entirely true when I first got it - I did it like every two weeks, then lost interest and went for 6 months. Screws were fine.
