Hi Team,

Im currently riding a Kalama e3 5,6 112lt sup foil. I have no issues with stability etc. but am weary of the lack of glide when paddling it. It's lack of glide became very apparent recently when my prone foiler mate zoomed off on me during a paddle out... So my question is what's a minimum length to optimize glide while still keeping things relatively short for pumping etc.

Ive been looking at the Amos shapes phantom as a replacement at 6,2 105lt. a little worried the drop in volume will negate glide... also hoping to maybe dabble in a bit of DW... maybe...

Many thanks Gents!

What is your weight?
@105kg+ I went from the Kalama E3 6 to the 6 6. I noticed better glide, but it is still not a 10 ft sup type of glide, the extra volume helped meaning I was pushing less water. SUP foil boards are short fat shapes that are not good to paddle.
Put a foil drive on it, problem solved

I too was worried about lack of glide when I first inserted a foil box into what was then considered too short a SUP for foiling. It was 7ft long x 31" wide by 115 litres. I am around 80 kgs. My SUP had excess nose rocker & pushed a lot of water. It was no use paddling as hard as I could because the extra speed was minimal. But once a little bit of wave speed came on, the board would start to lift & take the nose rocker out of the equation & would then just take off on foil like a turbo charger!
When I paddle out fairly hard I can keep up with prone surfboard paddlers.
Later on in the session I can keep paddling as they start to wear out & stop for breaks in a long paddle out.
I don't worry about the paddle glide at all.
In my view it is rocker, width & length in the wrong combinations that kills glide. And foil set up.
I can definitely feel the extra easier paddle speed of my other 8 foot SUPs compared to my foil board.
