I tried the 0 shim on the 232 in waist to head high waves SUP foiling yesterday and felt like it really helped with initiating turns and feeling more stable all round. I use the +1 on the wing foil. Pumping with the 0 felt pretty good, but I'm still progressing and am very hit and miss at staying high on foil while pumping. I'd also love to hear more tuning tips for specific feel regarding these combos!
I have found the tails gives you the biggest difference ( smaller = faster and looser but less stable and less lift )
The shims are like speed/ lift fine tuning .0 gives more lift/ slower top speed. +1 gives less lift / higher top speed.
Then fuselage size. shorter = more sensative to pitch and turn inputs.
Adjust all until you get the feel you like the most for your weight/ board size/ sport.
As far as pumping goes I find the smallest tail (212) with the fast shim +1 gives me the least drag and therefore the best pump as long as I keep the speed up. I found the biggest tail (300) the easiest when I was learning to pump because it gave me the most easy lift and stability, but required more energy to cover the same distance ultimately because of the extra drag it creates.
