Borrowed a mates chopped 232. Great upgrade, faster, easier turning and a bit more sensitive (which is good and bad). had some of the best turns I have done and few impressive breaches
Went straight home and chopped mine.
Mine on right before chop
Not chopping mine yet , still getting used to the extra speed and sensitivity ,got all I can handle for now.
Just rode the 1200 with +1 on some decent long period swells and went the fastest I've ever been racing the sections before they closed down , and covering some serious distance , the other surfers in the water were hooting and whistling , and when I got out the clubbies were checking out the foil.I was high lineing and going so quick I was getting scared cause if I came off it would hurt ,ended up on really steep close out section at the beach and just managed to straighten out before it shut down. Cant believe how fast the 1200 goes , can't imagine needing anymore speed than that wing does for prone surfing ,and thats with the uni tail ! be interesting with the 232 , not sure I'll ever need the hs1050.
Ok so I was wrong about the 232. First one I tried hummed and felt really vague so I returned it thinking it was not for me. Armie basically said htfu and get used to it due to performance gains. So I got a 232 and used it today. It is amazing. No hum super fast. Harder to control depth and sweeping turns but quick turns are awesome. Only change is smaller board with mast track further forward. Next step chop shop.
Interesting for a top-dollar company - their production varies that much that some versions of the stab hum and others don't, and that the owner says htfu when the stab is noisy and lacks feel. If they wanted to grab my attention as a company worth throwing $3000 at they would perhaps have expressed some appreciation for the feedback and committed to comparing the humming and non-humming parts and adjusting their production process accordingly ...

I did not mention the hum to army he was more talking about technique after I enquired about new wings being developed. Indicated I should spend more time on the smaller tail. I shortened that to htfu. The hum was not as bad as my Axis gear and probably could have been sorted with a bit of sanding. I was impressed with the fact he personally answered questions from a numpty off the inter webs. Interpret that how you will.
Armstrong is first foil I've owned that doesn't hum, with any of the wings and tails I have.Army has also answered my emails personally as well.
Gofoil on the other hand put out a video on ways to stop their foils from humming like it was just part of the deal ,as well as accepting some cracking on the fuse and only offering 6 months limited warranty insured of 12 ,from my point of view that's not great from an even more expensive foil.
That's allways been one of my worries when buying new wings (is it gonna hummmmmmm).
My Army foil is whisper quiet.
Yeah, I got one of the earlier tapered masts and it didn't come with the 1mm pad on the underside of the pedestal (where it contacts the board). I half mentioned that in an email about a year after purchasing and Army jumped on it and asked for my address and sent me a t-shirt, hat and two pads. Small dedicated company, thats for sure!
So I just got the 60cm fuse. I am on a SUP. Swapped out the 70cm. Went out in some sloppy conditions and have to say felt like i lost an anchor. The shorter fuse definitely felt freer. Like going from a longboard to a shortboard. Cant wait to get it out in cleaner conditions.
I am still on the unitail with the 1550. As i progress I will look into the smaller stab, that will be my next step later this year.

Nice chopping Hilly
Be great to here how the pumping changed with chopped tail. Benefits for speed and looseness but wondering on loss of stability for pumping - I'm imagining it just takes a more delicate pump technique?

I am crap at pumping. No miraculous fix for my skill-shortage, unfortunately
I posted this before - this guy can pump. Links multiple waves easily:
Chop shop verdict from a fellow frother:
**** yeah !!!!!! Best mod I've done so far apart from getting an Armstrong. Tighter turns and not nursing it through high speed turns. Pumps a fair bit easier and faster too. Didn't effect the lift just removed the hand break. Wonder how much more can be cut down.
Had 2 sesh's on mine since it got the chop, if anything I think I've gained in pump but I only had the 232 out about 6 times before chopping. Now it turns heaps better & feels like I can really start throwing it around.
Super stoked with this rig!!!
Hey Toppleover, Nice rig!
What size is that board? Did you start on that or a bigger one? I am toying with going prone.

Hi fatfish96, it's 4'4 x 20" - 30 L
Yep, started on a 5'0 - 38 L
I used the +1 shim for the first time today. 2400 with 212 tail in tiny waves. Great little mod with no down sides, faster, easier turning, pumping was much easier. Way less prone to getting ejected which the 2400 is prone to do on steeper drops. Cannot wait to try it with the 1550.
Have always used the 0 - And had been loving the 1200 & 232 combo, and the 1550 always felt sluggish after using the 1200.. But today tried the +1 with the 232 tail and the hs1550 today - was so much nicer! back to that fast feel that the 1200 gives.. amazing how such a little adjustment changes the whole feel of the foil - I could pump so much further as well, definitely worth a try!

Interesting, will try this today with a homemade shim that should be when added to the zero - same as +1

Washers work
Not sure if it was the +1 shim or not but definitely pumped further today than I have before, need more time on the water but think I'm starting to find that sweet spot.
Is that still full carbon hilly, or did he have to seal off the exposed foam core?
Full carbon
Curious to see the UNY TAIL compared to the HS tail and the modified one. Hilly would you have this ?

Yep, washers work a treat!! I find it way more pumpable with the +1, but when I go to the 1200, don't seem to need it and usually happy to go back to 0. Haven't tried the cut down wing tho, and wonder if you would still need to take lift away with the angle.. What shim do you guys use with the chopped wing?
I cut a shim out of a plastic milk bottle, it's about 0.6mm - felt pretty good prone with the 1550/212 & plan to keep using it.
How thick are those washers you guys are using?
