Anyone riding one of these and any good?

I had a first genaration NUBBY 3'11" 31L that I absolutely destroyed. Ended with blowing out the rail when in Chicama and gave it to the local foil frothers and I believe it's still in action today.
The new carbon options look great and I've been thinking about picking up a fire bolt myself.

Yeah that's the one I'm looking at with a Honeycombe carbon look.

Have a 4'6 Nubby from 2019 (35L) and still going strong. Love the shape, looks very "balanced": Outlines, rocker, deck shape all flow into each other beautifully

His newer high performance shapes are really narrow. 4'8 Firebolt and Supermodel @ 17.5 wide and narrow nose seem to be the opposite of Armstrong, Amos and other shapers. I notice Pyzel's high performance boards are narrow as well ! Must be a Hawaiian thing....!?

His boards are rock solid. Only manufacturer I haven't blown the track box out of. Current favorite is a super model 4'6 x 17 @ 35. The narrowness takes a little getting used to but feels amazing. Paddles well and cuts through the water incredibly. Definitely give em a try.

Can you post a photo ? I'm about to order one but still deciding on volume. Do you find the narrower board paddles better than a wider higher volume board ? I'm currently on a JS Industries 4'8 @ 31 litres and was thinking of going up to 4'8 35 or 36 litre super model. Can't quite decide..!

I'll try and remember to get a picture but optically it looks normal. It's only when you first sit/lay on it that it feels like a grom board. It only took a day or two to feel normal. It just feels like it paddles much better, tracking like a much longer rail line. Compared to wider boards (even those with less volume), they feel more corky and have a side to side motion while paddling compared to the narrow board.

John is a really good source for advice as well as boards. He's a very talented athlete as well as a shaper. Be honest with your ability and conditions and he'll recommend the right board. His production boards are really well made and the only reason to go custom is if you've had one of his production boards and decide you need something tweeked. He doesn't update his designs every year because what goes into production works so well, but if you have the time to wait, his custom boards are truly beautiful, though not trendy.

Thanks - Am going for the supermodel. Will take 4 weeks but am in 2 weeks home quarantine anyway....

Never been attracted to supermodels, too skinny and flightly. Now I'm too old to ride one anyway. (Still pining for Elle, though...) Been eyeing the Firebolt, but honestly, the Nubby works really well for the slower waves I prefer. Post some pics, please!
