Balin monster coil.

Baking downwind cool works perfectly. Same leash just without the 2 foot straight cord section. It's still easily long enough and the used a lot of by plentyon the east coast for winging or normal foiling

Axis makes them and leashlok is good also

Velcro your current leash to a belt, fanny pack, or ws harness.

I use a 6' coiled leash, attached to a belt made from a length of nylon webbing and 2 x fastex clips from the boat shop. Belt cost me $6. All coiled leashes will stretch so keep it short as you can, 6'

You want to get the leash out of the water to reduce chance of it snagging the foil when you fall.... moving it to your waist gets it more out of the way.

Plus the movement of a leash attached to the leg - with just the unconscious constant moves to keep your balance - increase the risk of tangling.

Lee, are you saying on the same waist belt put the board attached to thr back and the wing leash to the belt as well?

Light wind flat water, fine for both leashes to be attached to waist....I like spreading the load with a waist harness, not a belt.
In surf, you gotta consider the increased pull from both board and wing.

+1 for the blueplanet one. its a really nice piece of kit. comes with a nifty paddle leash too

+3 for the Blue Planet retractable leash, I'm only a newbie at SUP Foiling and spend around 50% of my time in the water :) but starting to get there.
I first used a normal leggie and was terrible, then went to a calf coil and it was a little better but still not great so I went and picked up a Heavy Duty ION Waist Coil leash and it was good for about 6 weeks until it stretched out and started to get wrapped around the foil quite often after crashing and getting stuck in bigger sets. So I saw the Blue Planet creation and called them, unfortunately it was hard getting onto them a few weeks back so I spoke to some of the local shops and I put this together.

I grabbed a Reel Kiteboard Leash from Surf FX (my local on the GC) then went to a local boatshop and picked up 2 meters of 8mm streach cord and put my own version together for around $120 AU. (I already had the ION waist strap though) and this is THE BEST!!!! I've used it 5-6 times now in varying surf and its amazing, when you fall and the cord wraps around the foil it slowly pulls it around the right way and untangles it and SHAZZAM!! your ready to go again!!! the only downside is, when it runs out of leash it gives you a more aggressive tug as you only have 1200mm of shock cord but I think the Blue Planet version with the larger bungee cord would be a bit better.

The main three things I can suggest is,
1- if you make you attaching cords a dual system and a bit longer you can grab it like a handle if your being hit by whitewater
2- I made my cord 1200mm long from eye to eye and it's perfect (I'm 172 cm tall)
3- I ground off the thumb clip on the attachment as it punched a nice little hole in my board during one of my uncontrolled ejections....

The balin leash has an option of a waist attachment. What exactly is this ? A massive strap around the waist ?

I strap my shortest surf leash, a 5' FCS around my waist harness. BTW, I have an FOne and at first I thought the harness would never work. But it's genius and saves your arms for the surfing and not the upwind work. I've tried above the thigh and coiled leashes and on a few occasions I was one big knot. The coiled leashes, they tend to wrap around the foil and if pulled hard can be a bugger to untangle while you're floating in the ocean or surf break managing your wing and also trying not to get dinked in the head by a bobbing wing.

Where did you get the blue planet one, they just quoted me $70USD shipping on one to QLD, seems a bit OTT

Hi Benk, I'm in Canada, so nowhere near the shipping costs, and at the time I was getting a BP SUP Foil board from them, so it was with the board with free shipping to US airport! But yeah $70usd seems high. International shipping is getting to be ridiculous. I have been unable to find anyone that will ship a 4'10 Gong wing board from France to Canada for less than $800, almost the price of the board!!!

Here's a cheaper way to get a retractable leash -- just buy an uphaul for windsurfing and attach one end to the board and the other end to the leash. Attach the leash to the back of your harness or to a belt.

I've just started using an Armstrong waist leash and just added the spreader bar from my mystic 2face harness to the army waist band. Took it out for a test run today and it went really well.

The full harness just felt overkill, while this was perfect. Allowing hooking in both heel side and toe side tacks (not riding switch quite yet). I could easily spin it around to allow prone paddling out to the wind line as well.

Yep that looks like it would do the job MAF

I normally use a waist leash but on the subject of harness's, I just made up a simple harness using a pretty minimalist Peter Lynn Harness that is for a traction kite.
I can probably rig up a leash to it.

It doesn't even come with a spreader bar but I added an old one I had, thinking the same thing a big harness is overkill whereas this will do the job and can be easily turned around.

That thing looks perfect!

I'm struggling to find a waist leash available in AU. The Balin monster waist for example is out of stock everywhere :-(
