Yes.. Windsurfers have got no hope against a Wing-ding..

Just kidding.. .. It really depends on the gear.. and the ability of both.

Good Windsurfer will be faster than an average Wing Foiler.. and a good Wing Foiler will be faster than an average Windsurfer,

Most Windsurfers are faster.. It's when Windsurfers are not fully planing the Wind Foilers eat them up for breakfast..

No.. I was using my HA 1800

The wind was very light at times but often in the 15-20 knot range.

Nice video. Looked really fun out there. I was surprised by the board speed being generated considering how clean the ocean looked. Was it blowing offshore?

I'm not stealing DJ's thunder, but I am on the yellow board, so was out sailing with DJ on the day.

I assume you aren't from Melbourne, so the explanation - this spot is predominantly suited to northerly winds, which in Melbourne tend to be quite gusty. It's not unusual to have 15 knots with up to 25 knot gusts coming through.

On this day, it was cross-shore, with perhaps a little offshore thrown in as well. It was 15 - 20 knots max, with some bigger holes in the wind. I'm still in the learning phase (13 sessions in), however, I was able to pump up onto foil pretty easily with my Naish 4m wing (version 1), Axis 920 foil, standard length fuselage and 400 stab and then glide through (most of) the holes in the wind.

Several years ago, I prone surfed along the east coast, from Sydney to Brisbane, but didn't make it to Victoria. I also have a 4m Naish wing, but thinking about getting something larger given the winds tend to be lite where I live. It's definitely not like Melbourne with 15 to 20 knots. Sounds like you have a good set up, and are on your way.
