never one to muck around i have purchased this boat as my replacement it was for sale in devonport and sold to me by a friend so i know a bit about her already and the boat saga for me can now be put to bed and i can get on with it.

Well done aus005. That is a lovely yacht.

Sailboatdata has no reference to the Cav 37. They have the Cav 36 which they say is designed by Doug Peterson and they say this:-

" A slightly larger, production version of the 1 ton racer Ganbare(Gumboots). The builders engaged Laurie Davidson to re-design the deck before going into production."

However a Google search produced this:- www.sea.museum/404

This clearly states the yacht is designed by Laurie Davidson which gives her a fine pedigree and the design was well proven in a world circumnavigation by Kay Cottee. So the yacht will be in it's element in Bass Strait.

Thanks guys im frothin over her i feel very lucky to get her and had to move fast as there were 15 boats in total lost, sunk or cant be repaired in the flood disaster so a bit of competition out there now for any good boats for sale locally.
She was being prepared for a trip across the tasman and no expense has been spared on her fitted with 12 inch displays ais radar new batteries hot water not yet hooked up. Man overboard bracelets new anchor $13000 mast re firbish and full fig replacement,new covers newish sails elec winch for main all lines to cockpit,raft, water desalinator,auto pilot.The bottom has been coated with a product that apparently does not need to be antifouled just bring her out and a light brush to remove slime.
As you can see she was to good not to buy.

I think she will be a good like for like replacement in the sea worthy stakes but everything else is an upgrade for me which is good as i had cry havoc pretty good but was starting to tire as she was a pretty big project for me.

Great boat. Read Kay Cottee's book, it will give you a good idea of their pluses and minuses.
This one looks to be very well set up.

I have done plenty of miles racing and delivering one in the 80's-90's and they are the type of boat that will get you home.
You will probably never sail your boat as hard as this one was sailed, but a couple of things to check:
Steering turning block mounts on the hull, before they return to the quadrant.
Make sure your anchor locker lid is really secured, in a heavy seaway, the wiring to the nav lights run through the locker, under the deck on the port side (from memory), they go through an approx 5mm hole in the bulkhead at the rear of the locker, make sure the hole is filled with silastic or sika or your favourite sealant, you would not believe how much water can come thru that hole, punching to windward in 25-30kts.
Another great lesson, if the f'wdhand is going to make grilled cheese sandwiches, make sure the plastic wrapping is taken off the cheese slice first....
Enjoy the boat, what type of finish is on the hull that doesn't need renewing??

Sweet boat, great outcome. Out of interest what year is she?

I believe she is a 86 model and not sure of the hull finish will post it when i find out
