question ........ has anyone had experience in finding / using a paint on version of a gel coat restorer ?

i have a lot of "nonslip " areas that are not suitable to apply and polish with a lambs wool buffer .

so without painting with a polyurethane , is there a paint on product that will restore /protect the rough non slip areas ?

yes may be something like the westmarine brushed into the non slip may help protect the existing .

i don,t want to get involved in a major painting project with kiwi paint ...... not sure how that would go onto the existing rough nonslip surface ? that stuff is to create non slip , i thought ?

SandS, is your non slip area a textured surface molded into the gelcoat? I think I'll give the Starbright product a try too.

We use these on white boats non skid decks can be brought from supermarkets (don't tell anyone) use with water and can also be used on leather or many other surfaces. Also acetone is a great cleaner for gelcoated surfaces.

Marine clean which is acid based is fine use a small brush and wipe with damp rag. K&h made a great gelcoat restorer gel years back but they went into receivership a few years back. Try the block I have suggested with water and also try acetone both works well.

To actualy restore the gelcoat you will need to polish and add luxurue back into the pores of the gelcoat which makes it slippery hence why I tape of the non skid areas when i cut and polish. Hope this helps.

But why not try to restore the nonslip ? it will still be nonslip due to the texture ? i just want to protect the surface of the nonslip . its clean .
I am looking for the best product to achieve that . .............the texture will destroy to many lambs wool covers if i buff same as smooth gelcoat .

If it's a original non slip gelcoat deck the only way to restore it is polish it and fill the tiny pores with wax which will hold wax and make it slippery. If you want to clean it use acetone or the White block that I suggested . I wish I had modern non slip decks on my yacht!

yeah its the orig molded nonslip gelcoat deck with some smooth areas

what would you polish it with , some kind of semi soft brush ? ..............then will the acetone only take the excess polish off ?

A nappy willl do the job fine. Personally I would not wax or try to rejuvenate a non skid surface with wax. Juat try acetone and white blocks as I suggested.

the magic white block sounds like some kind of mumbo jumbo black magic !!!! made in china , wtf is it ? how is that going to protect the gel coat ? now i,m just more confused !!! hahahaahahahah magic ****en white blocks !!!!....

It's just a cleaner kind of like wet rub. Works a treat!

But I used this below about $3 from "The Reject shop"

And this is the results.

You can see the difference. I did it again today and it came up even better.

good job ! from here that looks like a reasonably modern non slip, built in to the deck ,with part of it and the smooth gelcoat painted with a non slip paint of some sort . mine is a must heaver, deeper /rougher non slip older , maybe .

good move with the mold killler though !

Yes, that's the next job with a Non Wax polish this week. Just hoping for a shower of rain to wash the salt off

Why do you uses a no wax polish? I look for the best wax possible so as to seal the gel coat.

do you wax and polish your non skid areas jode5 ? I'm not sure there's such a thing of a no wax polish if as it repels water it's going to be slippery.

If you have mould growing on your deck yes mould cleaner will remove it. The white magjic blocks work a treat on Dimond style non skid gelcoat to remove black marks it won't work on sandpaper style non skid two pack.

No. Only polish the shiny Gel coat. I high pressure clean the non skid after every use. If i get any bad marks on the non skid, I scrub it with a bit of Jiff cream cleaner.

If you use a wax based polish you have to go to great lengths removing it if you want to do repairs to the glass/gel as wax will produce an edge to the repair. I think that's right. When using a mould for fibreglassing you do coat it with wax so it will release from the mould.

Using non wax polish is a short term thing, it has to be repeated from time to time. I've used the 3m ones as well as ordinary car polish and the usual collection of high priced marine ones [which only have a different label on

Oh yes, don't polish the non skid areas

The wax I use is 'Collinite' which is an aeronautical and marine wax and as we all know anything with the words aeronautical or marine on will mean twice the price. As this product has both words on it, it make it about 4 times the cost

It is actually a very good wax and is easy to apply to a good surface.
