has any one crossed the Bribie Caloundra bar in a keel boat before?

was thinking of heading up there next week and tucking into the bribie passage for a night on the anchor and then heading back to Brisbane.

I have been across the Caloudra bar a number of times in a power boat and there is NO way I would take a keel boat across it.

it can be very very shallow.

If you make it thru the bar you then have to deal with the huge tidal run in the passage.

Keep going up to Moolooaba and have a night on a berth at the marina or on anchor in the basin in the river.

If sailing from Brisbane I usually overnight at Tangalooma and then go onto Moolooaba the next day. You can do it in a one day but it's a big sail.
Try to time your travel with the tide as it runs hard in the shipping channels off Bribie.

I have seen yachts in there a couple of times but not sure if they had retractable keels.
Checked the charts a couple of times but decided it was not a good idea in my humble opinion but I am very conservative in these matters.
Can anyone comment on the Noosa Bar?

cheers. maybe its time for a rethink. might just head down to peal island again instead

its a shame as it looks like a nice spot tucked into at the end of bribie.

Looks good, but don't hear of too many people dropping in on their way up or down the coast

Caloundra bar is NOT an option. I've been sailing since I was a littlie in this part of the world and Caloundra Bar has historically just never been an option.

Noosa River - you MAY get a multi across the bar, however, I would be reluctant even then.

As other people have said, there are plenty of other options.

Noosa, we sailed a 60" cat across that bar. Scared the pants off me, knocked out one engine and destroyed the mast tuning..

I am not a sailor but surf it alot. The channel is currently running across the bar north to south on an inward run. Wouldn't want to tackle it in a sail boat at all.
Best mooring off Little Cove if the winds not northerly and not dealing with the bar at all.
