Hi All

Last weekend I went out to the boat and the motor was totally dead, not even a click when I turned the key. I know it wasn't the battery as I had the stereo going and the voltmeter was showing plenty of volts (with solar panel connected).

Anyway, I looked at all the bits I could and found a broken connection of the red wire in the ignition harness. Cool, I'd found the problem.

I took it home and cut out all the old connections and re-did them with Duraseal joiners. I'm pretty sure I matched all the wires up correctly.

I took it back out to the boat today, plugged it in and gave it a burl. The starter motor turns over with good force but no ignition.

I've searched to no avail for a wiring diagram for the harness but I guess they use a 10 pin now.

The pictures below are just showing the normal wiring harness for a side-mount Yamaha control but removed and separated from the side-mount.

Any Yammie geniuses out there? I set the key on and tried all the pin combos but couldn't find a closed circuit between pins. I just want to be able to test the circuits to see which one id a bad connection.

I used to have one of these - superb outboards. Have the FT9.9 2cmh "2009 Rigging Guide Manual" in pdf at 8Mb, 226 pages. Has a lot of wiring diagrams but not sure if it has the one you need. I also found this, which combined with what you sent, should tell me which pins should be a circuit for each key position...

looks like you may be sorted now Jethrow, but just in case, here's a copy of another that I had.
Just incase, did you check the oil level, theres a low oil pressure safety, am I thought there was also in greay start protection as well...?
Both would stop an other wise healthy engine from starting.

Just as a quick update, I was able to rejoin the ignition to the cable using the information above and I've now had two short motors around the bay.

All seems well!
