I saw it on the news last night. Not sure how it happened but it looks like all were wearing life jackets and at least one had a PLB. I single hand often and always wear a life jacket and carry a PLB, in addition to all the required flares epirb etc.

Pretty amazing girl with a broken leg to get 5 km towards shore!

Top marks for getting his daughter to safety. However you have to question the decision to enter Jurien Bay via south passage with a +3m swell. The WA Cruising Guide clearly states not to use this entrance above 2m and that the north passage is the preferred entrance in medium to heavy swell. I understand the swell was around 4.5m when he lost the yacht. I went through south passage several weeks ago and even in a 1.5-2m swell its a bit of a roller coaster.

I don't know the area but on Google earth south passage looks treacherous in a southerly or souwesterly swell.
