Morning Folks,

Chasing recommendations for a delivery skipper to bring a yacht from Tassie to Melbourne, around January 2025.

Sorry, she won't be as fancy or fast as the ORCV "Westcoasters".

Thanks in advance.

What about a nice cruise up the East coast to Launcenston and then wait for it and a quick motor in the middle of a high across Bass Strait? The problem I found trying to cross Bass Strait in January was that the only westerlies (I was going to Eden) were on the front of a cold front. And with my wife on board I didn't want to do that - so we waited for a calm and pushed across at a good pace under motor. Got into Eden with a couple of hours to spare. And we almost never motor long distance.

I got told by all the locals that coming back across in March/April was the best, with the highs changing latitude to give you nice southerlies. But we had to get home.

If you go in January you'll have a high chance of sustained easterlies. They'll give you a nice quick trip across with winds abaft the beam, but it might be pretty bumpy with the prevailing SW swell in the mix.
But if you have the time, wait a month, spend a night or two in the Furneaux and at Deal, and really enjoy the trip.

Cheers, Graeme

To close out this post, Taylor @ ezyboatdelivery.com.au did a stellar job bringing my wee Halmatic 30 across to the mainland. Super professional, organised and determined; he took good care of the old girl on the journey keeping me updated every step of the way.

Thanks Taylor.
