Recently installed a brand new TMC electric toilet and replaced all the old hoses.
It stinks! My old toilet, even in its death throes, never smelled bad. This one does....you know, that horrible boat toilet smell one finds on many boats.
I regularly flush vinegar through, however, I'd have to be using it every flush to be free of the smell. The joker valves on this new unit are cheap and nasty and perish easily with vinegar flushing (I've already replaced one).
The toilet itself has little chance to produce offensive smells, so if you have a holding tank I would be investigating it, vents, charcoal filter hose fittings & inspection port if it has one. All the TMCs I know of are good units.

Not wanting to usurp Ramona's usual role here but on his recommendation I bought a copy of Peggy Hall's book Get Rid of Boat Odors. It is excellent. Buying a copy would be a good place to start the search for the problem.

It's an excellent investment. Just try to avoid loaning it out!

Well, I have just had a play and opened then closed the valve to the (never used) holding tank. Nothing more than that and, voila, stinky loo no more. Thanks Seabreezers

Do yourself a favour and check that the vent is open and not blocked, at all. If it is not routinely used it should be bone dry and non aromatic within, the clear vent will keep it so.

Good to hear you've fixed it. But I don't understand what the cause was? And does that mean you're discharging straight overboard if you never use the holding tank?

I also have a porta potty for number twos. I'd rather take that ashore to dispose of responsibly than live with the inherent smells of a used holding tank.

Could be fun if there's no vent
Then it would be a really **** install, pun intended
