As the project continues, I'm looking to replace the caulking between topsides and toerail, and run a strip between toerail and deck.
I don't believe either are leaking, so don't want to remove and rebed, more cosmetic and functional.

Current Topsides to toerail is just dried out , and falling out, leaving a 12-15mm gap, and toerail to deck is more to seal the small gap between aluminum and deck, water on deck drains all the way back and leaves debris behind caught in small gap.
All forums that I've been reading are US based and talk about Life Calk, however I can't seem to find it here, or other polysulfide based caulks.
1 thought is Silkaflex 291, but it is a polyurethane, and not sure if compatible to Toplac/Kiwigrip, or other likely paints.
Thoughts of other products? Preferably paintable, not bothered by sand-able, and of course UV stable.

to use fixtech instead.

I don't know what boat you have but if it's early seventies be careful because some have asbestos in the caulking compound

Selleys No More Gaps exterior. The stuff used for weatherboards. Smooth off with a wet finger. Wait about 5 minutes before painting over or if using a water based paint go straight over.

If ever doing a complete rebed, I'd recommend specifically for the hull/deck joint, not to use 3M 5200 or Sika 291 but to go for a flex mastic epoxy like are sometimes used for expansion joints in concrete.

no way !! that is just the worst crap ! will shrink and not stick ....... sika or some kind of polyuro is the only way to go

Yes seriously. I like most of the fishermen in this port used this stuff extensively on our wooden fishing vessels. Above the waterline only. Best applied to primed timber. The weatherboard version has better expansion properties and fills a wider gap. Not sure if it's all that cheap. I just bought some Selley's THE ONE adhesive for a job in my cabin. It would suit your job as well but can only be over painted with water based paint. It's more expensive than Sikaflex though at about $20 for 290ml.
