Thirty foot yacht with 30 lb Manson (CQR type plough) + oversize swivel with 10 mm shank + 45 m short link 5/16" (8 mm) chain + 30 m Kinnears 18 mm 3 strand rode, all shackles seized with gal wire. All up 75 m of tackle which allows for up to 7:1 scope in 10 m depth.

Spare anchor stored aft and below, 27 lb Danforth type with forged shank + 15 m 5/16" (8 mm) chain + 100 m 12 mm multi strand rode.

Spare anchor and tackle stored aft and below, 27 lb plough anchor + 15 m 5/16" (8 mm) chain + 50 m 12 mm nylon line.

I believe there is sufficient redundancy there to cover most situations with extended cruising. The aft sections of the yacht are beamy, bouyant and under cockpit which allows for weighty items like spare anchors to be placed strategically for trim as required.

Ive a old plough that more like 40 kg 30 meters of chain and a rusty old one that was buried in the cockpit locker. Its some thing I have to go through yet. The last reason shes not be out of the marina. Ive a little bit of motor work to finish and add a couple of fire extinguishers and the anchor. Theres a fire extinguisher on board but shed be getting old. There on this weeks do list.
I think the last owner didn't use the anchor much mainly to and from the swing mooring.

Adams 45 - 1 x 25kg (55lb) Delta anchor, 35mts of 3/8” chain + 65 mts 5/8” rode. Spare = 1 x 35lb plough anchor, 10 mts 3/8" chain + 120 mts 3/4” rode stored amidships below.
I did have 60 mts of 1/2"chain in the chain locker but it was just too heavy in the bow so I sold it to my mooring man.

My thinking now is keep the old plough as a spare with chain and lock it into the anchor roller and on the other side of the bowsprit find some thing that can be use and lifted manually for now . I have some 8mm chain around 35 meters I think on board that came with the boat and untilize that for my main anchor
Some Gentle men what should I hang off the end of my bow?

Ill buy or build some thing like these on either side of the teak bowsprit run them back to the bow
How many KG's do you think Id need for the anchor knowing is a 28 foot H28 5000 kg displacement with 2500 KG keel

Picked up a 16kg Manson Supreme from the Bias Auctions.

Replaces a nice looking stainless Bruce claw which was a pretty good rake.

I have a CQR with about 10 meters of chain and 60 meters of 14mm 3 strand nylon

Also found a danforth I didn't know I had wrapped in carpet in the bow under a couple of buckets and some other stuff 12 months after I bought the boat

I have a 25ft trailer sailer. Anchor is a 6kg delta with 1st 10m 6mm long link then 10m of 8mm short then 10m of 6mm long link. I have 50m of 8mm 3strand nylon.

You're probably wondering why I have the different gauge chain. I want to minimize weight but maximize the chains holding ability so a heavier chain further along creates more dangle. I need so much chain as I'm in the great barrier reef. I've found the delta fantastic and have sat out some strong winds with no stress.

Yes according to the web site...a 18kg for 9 meter boat. But they have changed that now and are using boat weight rather than length now

The Manson sets fantastically and, personally, helps me sleep. For the sake of transparency, no experience as yet of anchoring in a big blow.

Spares 55lb fisherman (admiralty), 30m chain, 2x 10kg Danforth and 100m 25mm nylon. + two dingy anchors...I guess weight doesn't matter to me! I have used all tackle on a couple of occasions... (Riding out cyclones in south pacific including 3x engine blocks and dragged it all, thank god the eye went over and the wind backed 180...)
Delta generally works well but I never go easy on the reverse thrust to set it!

It's the angle of the spade and surface area that holds the boat. My anchor resides in a well. I used the manufacturers templates to build a timber version first to ensure it actually fits the compartment. Probably should have made it lighter! Making the anchor yourself its easier to get a really sharp point and edge to the spade.

Hi, 72 meters 8 mm chain and 16 kg Delta, 10 kg folding grapnel on 64 m general link 6mm chain, had not been short for chain yet.
bit over size for 32' , and still not bow heavy.

Trailer sailer 20'
4 kg delta , 10 mts chain (when necessary) otherwise 4 mts chain and 12 mm nylon rode
Changed from silver rode to nylon last december ....much better
I sleep comfortably with this setup delta resets quickly and buries itself deeply in weed , mud and shell
The only drag i had was when the tip impaled a clam shell in 35 knots and it began to skip

I almost changed over to the spare CQR when I dragged on Lake Macquarrie in a southerly where I was anchored in silt and shell.
Since then I have used it for kedging, stayed put in 40 knotts at Broughton Island and spent a week hanging off it in winds between 25 and 55 knots at Island Head Creek.
It digs into sand very well and holds well on most other bottoms.
The CQR will be my anchor of choice in soft bottoms but the Excel seems to do an excellent job otherwise.
My Excel has forty meters of chain behind it and then thirty meters of rope.
My CQR sits beside my Excel on the bow and has fifteen meters of chain and fifty meters of rope. The CQR is nearly twice as heavy as the Excel.
A danforth and rode lives in the lazerette.

Hi, 20 kg galvanised excell replaced a 15 kg rocna on my 32 fisher.I have found it to hold everywhere first time every time, the rocna that it replaced dragged several times in soft mud and came up a ball of black goo. Not good! I would agree that the excell is a bit pricey, but hey it works.

Plus my old man told me there is not such thing as "cant" South Ace . While I was using a crow bar when it was stinking hot day and the crow bar was bouncing off the ground on impact trying to dig a hole for a strainer post and he liked them deep the old bugger

What size plate did you use ramona?

The spade and keel is 3mm. The stock is hollow with 20mm tube on the top and 15 mm tube one the bottom, 1.5 mm wall and this is skinned with 1.5 mm plate. The keel is lead filled.
