It has got me wondering what a boat like that would be doing up here

I don't suppose you know the name of the person who bought her or his brothers name

The HYC on the back of her must refer to something else because I cant imagine any of the Huon Yacht Club members buying her as we are only a small rural club with a small in length and number racing fleet unless he intends to race her against the larger boats in Hobart

Do you know how she is built and whether she is fitted out inside or if she is just a shell

The 2.5 ton keel doesn't seem like much for a boat this size but i suppose if it has a bulb on the bottom of a deep keel that would give her some stability

Do you have any idea how heavy she would be

She was F1995 after spending many years at South of Perth yacht club. The HYC is a new addition, we'll since the name change.

Below is a racing fit out. It is all varnished timber down below so visually impressive. All timber strips at 45 degrees if I recall correctly.

Quick for a boat boat built in 1988 and even faster under Garth's ownership.

I was down the Huon today and called in to have a look. Wow, she's a lot of boat, I was surprised at just how beamy it is in the flesh. Definitely a NZ Rigging carbon spa.

Glad she has a new lease on life after being written off.

If its the modified Inglis 47 formally Wild One shes had a quite a history.

I sailed on Wild One for a few years in the late 90's. Five guys from Blairgowrie pooled resources and bought her from Launceston, she was named Wild Apple at the time.

She was sailed out of Sandringham, but spent plenty of time down at Blairgowrie as well.

She was Grants original Wild Thing, the one in the photo where she's virtually airborne al la 18 footer !

I just checked a couple old photos, when we had her the sail number was "Sm 1995", same number as on her transom here.

We went for a sail yesterday and she is gone from the Jetty so not sure where she is now but one of the club members down here mentioned she may be at the POW marina in Hobart

When i was down there a couple of days ago i noticed she still had Walk on the Wildside on the 2 horseshoe life rings hanging on the stern

Yup she's at POW.
Just met the owner who used to do alot of offshore as he owned Police Car back in the day, but he's planning to simply try and sell this boat soon.
Mind you, not an easy boat to sell as she really needs 10+ crew to make her go.

Speaking of pedigree craft at PoW Bay, I saw Mirrabooka heading up the river towards there a couple of weeks ago - has she always been there? I was under the impression that she'd been sold to the mainland.

In light of recent controversial documentaries, maybe they should change the name once more before putting her up for sale.

I believe the ownership strong since JB....
Group that owned Fadar Marine near RYCT.
Sold to Melbourne (owners flew us to Melbourne to fit one of our furlers)
Now back at POW and has been for atleast 18 months but I don't know who owns.

Just an update....looks like a Hobart guy is very interested in buying, might be heading out for the test sail next week.
Would be great to have a boat to compete with Oskana (Cookson 50) down here for line honours

Beautiful boat, but I think she'd probably be division 2 these days. I'm sure the furlers will have turned her into a manageable cruiser racer.

Sorry I meant the Inglis not Mirrabooka!!
I used to race on Mirrabooka and even with a #2 on the furler she would definitely still be div 1! Would hold the Farr 40's uphill I reckon!!
