Any info/comments on the visitors mooring just to the west of the northern end of Bowen Island? 35 deg 06.7690' S 150 deg 45.9770' E

Any good in a southerly? Cant imaging it would be much good in anything from a westerly through to a nor'easter

Charted as in 10 - 15m of water, though quite close in.

Is it much used; generally vacant of a late afternoon; or...?

Context is considering it as an overnight option on a passage north.

It looks like your talking about Hole in the Wall Vistors bouys, have stayed there a few times on the run to Sydney, generally out of holiday periods there are vacant bouys. A good place for the night, if a northerly is forecast then move to the north of the bay.

Coming in late at night and tired, it does feel like the bouys close to the shore are very close to the beach, but if fine if your careful.

If the weather is westerly or calm, the visitors bouys off Husky are also a good spot, but a long way into the bay if your aim is to make good time to Sydney.

I think you may be referring to the commercial mooring used by the dive charter boats, not a visitor mooring.
As mentioned by East Coast Sail, the hole in the wall which is very close, just a little further south, has I think five visitor moorings and is good in a southerly, not so good in anything with a touch of north west.

I was looking at the visitors buoy charted 1.65NM NE (40 T) of Hole in the Wall. Have now discovered it is for commercial vessels only :-( As is the one in Grosvenor Bay apparently. A friend who has been up and down the coast more times than I ever will suggested passing Jervis Bay and going into the Shoalhaven to moor at Greenwell point. But I was looking for a quick duck in and duck back out again, without a bar crossing.

The bar at the Crookhaven entrance is benign 99% of the time. The courtesy mooring is 2nm from the entrance and I think there is a boat on it at the moment.

In the end (early July), I went past JB and used the public mooring off Currarong Beach, in behind Beecroft Head. This saved going into JB, or going up river to Greenwell Pt. and also provided enough shelter for a quiet night in 20+knots of Southerly, and a bit of a head start for the next leg going North. Wind still whistled a bit in the top of the mast, and some residual swell managed to get around the Head (swell in open sea was 2.5m from SE at the time), but not enough to be at all uncomfortable.
