Sailing Victoria has negotiated a waiver to allow boat owners to attend to their vessels outside the 5km radius for "emergency maintenance or safety purpose only". SV has emailed club commodores, and presumably notices will be posted on the SV and/or club websites soon. You must show the police proof of your ownership and the vessel's location if pulled up.

At last a little bit of common sense prevails.

It was actually possible, but not codified, before: one of the owners in our mooring ground allowed to attend to his beached boat with some assistance from others.

I've been visiting my boat on the mooring once a week to check on the bilge pump. No problem from the police when they visited the beach as i was preparing to row out. I just said it was a necessity for responsible boat ownership. While I was on my boat, to rub salt into the wounds, a speedboat from Queenscliff motors into the mooring field trolling for salmon. I didn't know where he was from and as he approached my boat i said to him i'd seen the police out checking. His reply...no problem mate! I'm from Queenscliff and we arn't in lockdown. Besides I know the local water police! A bit cheeky if you ask me. I felt like telling him to piss off back to queenscliff.

And quite within your rights to do so I'd say. Visiting a lockdown area from a non-lockdown area, he'd be in trouble if caught.

Just out of interest, where is your mooring?

I live in the Melbourne city zone and keep my boat on a mooring just outside the City boundary. i.e. in regional Victoria . Can I visit my boat?

The main thrust of the waiver is to allow you to travel more than 5km for the stated purposes. The email I saw did not address crossing exclusion-zone boundaries, so my definitive non-negotiable answer is: dunno.

I've asked our secretary to look into the SV comment.
Wongaga do you have any links for this formally, as none of us have found any formal announcements from SV regarding lockdown developments for Melbourne.

Is there any information publicly available, a link we could refer to if stopped by police?

Here is the email that was forwarded to me. It didn't copy too well, but the words are all there. According to this email, you should carry proof of ownership and of the location of your boat to show the police. I assume it has not been circulated beyond the clubs to avoid every ratbag with a tinny rushing to the seaside.

No news about the solo sailing, but I assume that concerns allowable exercise within your 5km radius.

This could be a letter on club or marina letter head confirming its location Please note if Victorian Police pull you up they will be asking for this proof. Finally we have our request for single handed sailing to be approved as of the 14th of September with DHHS. This has been backed by DOT and DJPR. Fingers crossed I will have good news next week.
