On my decks and cockpit seats the old owner painted everything red with non skid in the paint. The red makes the boat hot and its all starting to come off anyway.
I really like the idea of using paddle board grip. I can get a light grey and for about 200 dollars to do the whole boat. I think will try just doing the cockpit first as i was gonna get cushions for the cockpit but they can be a nuisance and the paddle board grip is thin, grippy and a bit soft. What could be wrong with this ideA?

a good sand , Prep and roll on some Primer and then non skid paint

In the November 2013 Issue Practical Sailor reported on the results of testing 3 non-skid mats on the Florida sun for 1 year. The Treadmaster and Seadek mats held up, but another mat that has been withdrawn from sale had totally failed (dried out, spider web cracks, bleached, crumbles when scrubbed, from UV exposure). So the risk is the paddle board grip may not have good enough UV protection to endure constant exposure.

Options that have been tested by Practical Sailor (Treadmaster, Seadek), and Seacork which I think should hold up (it goes grey in the sun) are all around $225 to $250 per square meter.

I used KiwiGrip - water based & easy to apply with the special roller & easy clean up. Looks good too.
You can get the finish you want as well, either soft or aggressive depending how you apply it.

The hardest part is the masking up.

I made a start today with the kiwi grip. I kinda stuffed it a bit at first nearer the bow but then came good. Painting with water base is a luxury. I only bought 1 litre so ill get another tomorrow. Got a tiny bit left to
do. I taped. Sanded. Cleaned then painted. Very happy with it! Bye bye red. Hello ski tan....

so roughly how long will that KiwiGrip stuff last for?

still not sure how long it lasts. cheap fix though. can was 50 bucks and i nearly did the whole lot with one can. so 2 cans to do my boat and ill have some left over. theyve got cream, grey and white. you can get a light blue but you gotta order it in.

There is an Aussie version, no details here at the moment that is tintable and cheaper. I can check this Arvo.

FWIW this product is highly recommended by a professional wholesale painters, it's Australian made and very, very similar to Kiwi (the same stuff reportedly) just hasn't been marketed well.

You can mix the colours of cans or have them tinted.

Im pretty happy with it. Cheap. Easy to apply. 9.95 for a specific kiwigrip roller. Water based paint. For sections in tight spots i dabbed with a brush and you get a similar texture. I noticed a difference in the heat straightaway inside as the red deck made the boat hot
