Gday,

There's a 1996 Triton 24 on boat sales for $17500, the photos look good as does the description.
This would be my first boat, can anyone comment on these vessels and I'd appreciate your opinion on the one in the listing above.?

Here is a link to it when it was sold in 2014 - this link indicates built year 1995. Most of these were built in the 70s and 80s - is there proof of the 1995/6 build year? It may well be valid but would check it. How old is the standing rigging and what is it's condition. Is the survey report good and including hull photos when slipped including keel to hull joint etc? Are the hull keel floors and keel bolts - visible under the floorboards - in good condition? Chain plates and bolting, main bulkhead in good nic? Any collision or grounding evidence? Plenty of stainless tube structures off the transom.............will you need all that............

The are other T24s for sale in the $6k range - obviously they are older and not as good as this one but could be worth inspecting to get a comparison.

It seems like a big engine for a small boat (13HP Volvo Diesel). A big engine is not a bad thing, especially if it is running well, but it seems disproportionate. The photo has enough blur on the belts to suggest it was taken when the engine was running. Also, it looks like the design gives you quite good all-round access to the engine.

(PS, having spent three days getting my diesel engine to re-start, my head is full of diesel engines, so I'm noticing these things more than normal).

Welcome to the forum

not sure what your situation is or what you intend to do with the boat but have you considered a larger boat

We bought a 20 footer first off and then went up to our current 28 footer which seemed a big jump at the time from the 20 but now I am wishing we had bought something around 30 to 32 feet instead
which would give us a bit more room for extended time away but is still a nice easy sized boat to handle for one or two people

Last time I looked a couple of days ago there were a couple of Hutton 28s for sale at that price which is a hell of a lot bigger boat with solid glass hull and deck. Need to check Keel chain plates and bulkheads as always
