Got a Suzuki DF6 on my tender and it's great. But my partner has arm injuries and can't start it. I was thinking about going back to good Yammie 3 or 5 two stroke, or new Tohatsu 3.5 four stroke so she could start them. A good second hand two stoke is asking about $1k as demand for them grows, which is a lot for a 10yr old outboard.

I just realised the Tohatsu 3.5 is sub 20kg and my other half should be able to start it.

Anyone here have one, do you like it, had any issues?

I'm a fan of 2 strokes for simplicity
But I have herd that the smaller honda 4 strokes have a decompression feature for easy starting might be worth looking into

I'm about the only sailor I know that doesn't like the Honda 2.3. Had one 5 yrs ago, loud, slow, cheap fittings that corroded.

Anyone have a Toey 3.5?

Not anymore, but the one I had eons ago was a great motor. I currently have a second-hand Mercury 3.3 which I think is actually the Tohatsu 3.3 and it's been good. I own two Tohatsu 9.8s bought new and both of them have been excellent; basically faultless in operation and by far the lightest of their type.

Picked up a clean Mercury 3.3hp two stroke today. It should do the trick, thanks for the responses.

Yes, 13kg and this one has a F-N. A great benefit over the direct drive ones.
