I've tried silicon , any suggestions before i fork out for the more expensive tubes of goo ?

The perspex windows on my cat are held in by 6mm double sided tape and some Fixtech 200

This is the bees knees. Don't bother with sikaflex or others. Clean with meths, add the tape and squeeze into join.

Bathroom Silicon, like MDF, is one of those materials that should NEVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, get anywhere near a boat.

Fixtech is good, and actually does what you think it does.

That's interesting, I used a couple of screws to hold the polycarbonate in place until
the fixtech cured then backed them out and filled the holes.

Assume this is the video - 3M VHB tape to bond the window to the flat lip and then one of two Dow Corning silicones suggested for the surrounding gap. The FS200 should be just as good as the DC for the surrounds. Assume your ply will be totally epoxy resin sealed and then a primer and 2 pack polyurethane top coats to finish off? eg Norglass Shipshape and Northane.

I don't use just the tape - I think it does the holding till the Fixtech hardens up. I would not like to use the tape and then just a non holding silicone. In fact in reality I still like a bolt at each end of my windows. My large windows have a bit of a curve in them and they can start to lift up at the narrower point, so a single bolt in the corners helps stop lifting and stops the windows falling off if the tape and fixtech let go. Strangely enough, the only problem I have with my setup is when the Wattyl Poly 400 polyurethane peeled off and the screws keep the window on until I get the time to rip the whole thing off, paint and redo.

But tape and fixtech is really good stuff - no leaks which is always nice.

I don't think he is saying that the silicone doesn't have any holding properties. In fact his recommended product, Dow Corning 750 does have holding ability.

But having just looked at the price, if/when I tackle ti project, I'll be using FS200 too

Follow the fixtech directions as to scuffing, cleaning & black out procedures it will stick and be sealed. The overall appearance will dictated by the masking up and overall meticulously working clean, be prepared for the tape coming of the wet edge to be disposed of immediately into a bucket, otherwise you will have it every where, ( change gloves as soon as they get contaminated) and it does adhere to everything ! A little skill with the calking gun and pre planning will deliver a pro job

I followed the method on Boatworks Today and it worked perfectly.
- Tinted perspex from Vale Plastics - 10 windows - $600
- 3M 5952 VHB Tape (Black - 1.1mm Thick) SKU: 3M 5952 Black VHB Tape-18mm - from embossing tape supplies - $178
- Dow Corning silcone - $8 per tube from glazing shop
- Black exhaust spray from hardware store for the trim

Once the windows were prepped it took about 1/2 day to do one side (5) and no leaks. I also used the same method on the hatches and the 10mm perspex had to bend a bit- just clamped it down until the tape cured.
