I have had a couple of PMs asking my opinion on Lotus 9.2 yachts which prompts me to extol the virtues of this particular design of yacht.

Any great yacht only ever comes from a great designer. Alan Wright is one of they. The guy had little regard for rules and just did what he did best. That is the best way to live life.

It is said there is only one success in life and that lies in living life in your own way. If that is true one would have to say that Alan Wright led a successful life.

A life spent messing about in boats!! That has a certain utopian appeal about it. Isn't the job, the house, the mortgage (engagement till death), the car and keeping up with the Joneses just a maintenance program that tries to keep us in line with the rest of the plebs???

With the design of the Lotus 9.2 I believe Alan created an ultimate escape machine within 30 feet.

There is no doubt that the Lotus 9.2 can win races like the NZ north island two handed circumnavigation or the Auckland-Suva. It is documented.

Rather than I speak for he, let he speak for he.

My opinion has been asked a couple of times on this yacht and all I can say is for goodness sake somebody who will love it as it should be, just buy it and be it's caretaker. You won't own it, it will own you.

cisco,
Have you had Second Wind out of the water?
Im wondering how she would sit on a slip??
It seems like a lot of boat sitting on what looks like a relatively small fin keel, do you have to go to a yard that has a slinged crane?

And how would she take to ground, drying out on a sandbank for example?

My next boat (after the Top Hat) is im thinking in the 28 to 32ft range & I like strong, built like a bricks£!t house underwater profiles, but might have to compromise in this to get a relatively quick hull.
I like the interior setout, seems very practical.
cheers

Hehe, would love the 36 S&S Rocketship Express, but that might be the end yacht, after the next step which is 28 to 32ft I reckon.

These pics are from before I bought her. With the right type of slip cradle with fore and aft acro props I think she will be quite fine. I have not had her out yet but is due soon. I believe I have a stinking great worm in my timber rudder which may need a complete rebuild.

No matter which yacht you buy there will always be a compromise of some sort. I have always had fin keel sloops and just love the way they perform.

As long as you have the budget for the ongoing expenses I would go straight to the Ferrari. Lexmark's yacht has a great pedigree.

If you don't have the budget, buy Tintola.
