Has anyone tested and compared teak oils (for use on deck fittings and toe rails etc) as an alternative to varnish?

I use deks olje on masts, booms, gaffs, etc. it's a compromise, needs to be reapplied more regularly but I find that a painless process, therapeutic even, varnish last longer but when it fails it's a bare wood job. It's all personal preference.but don't use cheap decking oil it's just not in the same league.
I've just completed a oakume kitchen fit out in a house and done it with deks, too good for words !

No but there are numerous good blogs on the subject see below; one of the Cetol products seems to be the go but need to be careful of dew when applying. $120 for 946ml................

I have outdoor furniture oil on my hatch cover and trim and it's holding up really well. My cockpit is all teak and I'm hoping it's still dry tomorrow so I can apply teak sealer to it. This is a sealer as opposed to oil. When we had all those days of rain the cockpit got a little grotty. O have this stuff to apply.

I scrubbed the teak with a scotch pad and Metal Gleam at 5:1 and it looks really good. I'm hoping the sealer keeps it that way!

The furniture oil was not cheap but it was cheaper than the Starbrite sealer!

I managed to get the teak sealer down today. I was a little surprised when I opened the can. I expected it would look a bit like varnish or oil but it looked like white coffee coloured paint! It went on like oil and has pretty much the same appearance as outdoor oil. It looks OK and will have to see how it holds up. The photo is pretty much how it turned out. the hatch cover is in merbau outdoor oil and has been there a few months and looks as good as it did when first applied. I only used 500ml and still have to do the small trim areas around the cockpit cuddy holes. It was about $100 a litre landed at my door.

That looks a million bucks ! It seems the line between oil, sealer & varnish is blurring
