Hello all

Wondering what sort of screen people are using on their boats. 12 V or 240 on an inverter.
We inherited a 12 v Smart Tv that appears to be an anchor in the making.... Useless.
Probably an early model.

We wont be high use but YouTube and the ability for Foxtel Go on occasions when the Tigers are playing is a bout the extent of it.
We have a monitor we could use but don't want to then hook up a laptop.
We have been using an iPad but not ideal for the footy.

Thoughts and experience would be appreciated.

Any of the caravan type screens around 22 inches will come with an inverter and draw very little power. On my last yacht I used one as a monitor for OpenCPN. I did use it as a TV as well with a fractal antenna I made and it hung in the cabin behind the settee and always had a brilliant picture. The antenna is only about 150mm across and is the star design. It's hidden behind the screen in this picture

That's where I bought mine.. Light weight and very low amperage draw.. Built in DVD player 12v and 240w. Good quality and well priced.

I bought a 12V TV with built in dvd from Kogan, so far so good.

I have an Englaon 12v 32'' Full HD LED TV, with built in DVD player, & a 12v 22" as well & both have been going strong for over 5 years.
I previously had a 240v which ran through the inverter but it just seems a waste to run the inverter when there are 12v models out there!!

These TV's only draw about 55 watts. I measured the current draw of the little inverter that came with mine and it was not worth worrying about.

It depends on your battery bank..
My house battery is 140 ah and I have 2 x 120watt solar panels.
I looked at the Kogan TV and they draw 83 watts.
Yes these TV'S are 12 volt compatible, but they draw many amps..Starting at 8 amps per hour..
My Majestic TV only draws 1.2 amps per hour..
The most efficient 12v TV on the the market.
Look at Keough Marine Website, where this is backed up...

I installed a Majestic 24 smart TV, not cheap but I'm happy with it. I was after a decent sound quality something the cheaper sets seemed to be lacking in.

I have a Kogan. It's rubbish. The black is not black. It's a smart tv and Netflix works but nothing else. The sound is rubbish.

Etiquette goes a Long Way...

I have 2 kogan 24inch TV's on my boat and have had 2 on my previous boats too
I find them great they use little power about 1 amp
I have a google dongle connected to one and it works great with all the tv apps
Sounds is good you just need to adjust the bass and treble
And if you you keep any eye on the kogan site there often on special I paid $110 each for mine

If you don't use the DVD drive the TV draws very little. That 22 inch TV in the photo ran continuously for well over 24 hours when I delivered the yacht up the coast. 100 amp battery with solar during the daylight hours.

Probably what I need to do is install the google chromecast. Also I don't know how old mine is as it came with the boat so mine might just be a version that isn't very good. Not sure.

I have a Kogan 21" tv it's now about 8-9 years old. It has a DVD built in and it is not a "Smart"tv, but I have connected the tv to my GME stereo so I can use the stereo as the DVD player, the audio comes out of the stereo speakers. I have the chrome cast attached as well .

Thanks Jolene...So with the Chromecast, you don't need a Smart TV ? You simply send from phones what you want to watch ?

Yeah that's it!. You connect the chrome cast to a WiFi network that your phone or iPad is using, or hotspot from your phone. You can then watch stuff on your tv that is cast supported like YouTube or Netflix.

The second version of Google chromecast is much better it comes with a remote works just like a smart TV and you only need your phone for the initial set up
I originally had the first google chromecast it was a bit of a pain as you needed to run it though your phone i upgraded to the second version when it came out
If your tv has a hdmi input and a usb to power the unit it will work
