Got a message from the Brisbane police today on my message bank claiming I had not arrived at Morton bay at 1500 yesterday and they are worried for my safety. I assume this is regarding my previous yacht which was last in Mackay with the new female owner.... What I don't understand is how the Sargent got my phone number. The other strange thing is I have spent the past 15 days at anchor in Morton bay , South Australia!

EPIRB rego requires your contact details (plus yacht details) and maybe big brother is able to get access to this when your (previous) yachts name was used on a sked and then failed to report arrival or didn't update with a costal VMR. Maybe

Did the EPIRBS stay with the previous boat and did you log in and change this status to "not mine anymore" or something like that.

Yes I admit I'm a bit slack with epirb! I think my current new boat may still be in the previous owners name!

Southace - thought you had disappeared for a while, I hope you enjoyed Morton Bay!

You need to go to ausbeacon@amsa.gov.au
Or give them a ring to update your Epirb, they are really helpful and friendly. 1800 406 406

The crew and myself did 10 days over Christmas and then 5 days last week out at the islands watching DVDs , fishing and relaxing.......luckily I returned when I did as the after Christmas yachts are just starting to arrive!
My battery's never got under 12.5 volts and some stages I was collecting close to 22 amps from solar and wind!

Could it also be that the new owner radioed out and logged with your old details (Ie Call sign Sea Rescue log) and then didn't log off when arriving

I cant see how its the EPIRB unless its activated

I only maintain radio watch and do radio checks or ask for bar conditions I choose not to log on and of with VMRs I suspect it's the Epirb.

My point was she could have logged in using your details

Why not just ring the Brisbane police back and as you inform them it's no longer your boat, ask where they got your contact details from, seems an easier way to solve the question to me.
