Hi, I've just recently purchased a spacesailer 22 and its penned in the swan river, Perth.
Got a few questions for the seasoned sailors out there.
Will I need to wash down the boat after everytime I take it out sailing in the river. It permanently stays on the river in SOPYC.

What is my range in the river in terms of going up Guildford way or Riverton. Would I be able tp take it up to Swan Valley area? Spacesailers22 does have a deeper keel.

Many thanks

Should be alright at least up to BullCreek water ski area and Ascot, probably more but haven't been any higher then that and it was like 20+ years ago.

Download the maps and you'll get some idea of how far you can go,
www.transport.wa.gov.au/imarine/Gregory-to-Perth.asp#36360

Also if you don't already have one maybe invest in a cheap fishfinder so you'll know the depth you are in , one with a GPS would be a bonus but even something like this
www.bcf.com.au/p/lowrance-hook%C2%B2-4x-fish-finder-bullet-transducer/551789.html?cgid=BCF012505#start=6
will give you the water depth.

And if everything else fails remember to carry a long pole with a flat foot when sailing in shallow waters so you can start the outboard and push yourself out of the mud.

The other problem you have going that far up is the bridges - unless you are happy to drop the mast and motor the whole way, which given the channel width in places is probably your best bet anyway.

Depends where you are moored, so long as you are no where near a slip way should be fine once a month. From memory thats what I did with my Spacesailer 22 at SPYC.

Thanks all for the info and help.

Yeah I realised there are going to be alot of bridges to go through.

Fishfinder with depth monitor is a great idea.

I'll have to start looking for a long pole then and practice pushing my boat :p

Yeah, previous owner also washed it once a month.
