Hi all,

I'm looking for someone, unfortunately at very short notice, to act as skipper for a delivery from Greenwell Point, NSW to Paynesville, VIC or part thereof. Earliest departure would be Friday 12th March.

The boat is a Currawong 30, the crew would be myself and my son. Please PM me on Seabreeze if you are interested.

Cheers,
Kinora

I now have a skipper from Greenwell Point to Batemans Bay, perhaps Bermagui, by Saturday afternoon. I would still be very interested in hearing from anyone who could help get the boat to Lakes Entrance.

Cheers,
Kinora

Sorry I can't help at this time.
The only thing I can do is give the link for the Lakes Entrance bar crossing: ms20140716-gippsland-lakes-ocean-entrance-and-bar-marks-in-line.pdf (gippslandports.vic.gov.au)
which I assume you probably already know. The real-time info about the tide, the current and webcams are most important IMO.
I went in alone almost 2 years ago, coming from the Prom in about 22 hours and waited (motoring back and forth) for 4 hours until the tide change and the breaking waves ended as the tide took the current into the channel.

PS bad link above. all that code is preceded by www.gippslandports.vic.gov.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/ I don't know why it didn't copy the whole hyperlink nor the preceding part, even though I did it twice. The tides & current in the channel (at the entrance) are on that PDF document.

Many thanks, FabulousPhill!

Hi Kinora,
How are you going? Been enjoying your trip down the coast? The easterlies of the last few days should have been useful, especially once you turn the corner. I hope you have been enjoying the new boat, the Lakes may seem a bit tame after this.

Hi DrogueOne,

One of the skippers from Marine Rescue Shoalhaven came with us from Greenwell Point. We joked that Marine Rescue thought this was the best way to avoid coming out and saving the Victorian incompetents at some stage.

Left Greenwell Point Friday before last, encountered 30 to 35 kts and 6 to 7 m seas going between Beecroft Head and Sir John Young Banks so sheltered overnight at Long Beach in Jervis Bay with Young Endeavour. Next day to Ulladulla and waited 2 days for a front to go through (Ulladulla has a pink courtesy mooring now). Went from Ulladulla to Batemans Bay on Tuesday, Bermagui on Wednesday. Left Bermagui at 0730 on Thursday and crossed the bar at Lakes Entrance about 1400 on Friday. Managed 130 nm over a 24 hour period reaching and running ahead of strong Easterlies. Not bad for a 44 year old, 30 ft boat.

Big thanks to the skipper, to Rod from Kareela for gifting me a copy of Lucas, to Ramona for diving under the boat to check the damage at Greenwell Point, to FabulousPhill for encouragement and to you, DrogueOne and Andrew68, for your interest. SeaBreeze is a wonderful community.

The lakes? Tame, yes, but a good place to practice. Coastal cruising? I am smitten.

Cheers,
Kinora
