Anyone sanded and painted Sikaflex marine to a smooth finish?
If so I would appreciate advice on the method used and paint type.

let it cure and sand.
I repaired old aging teak rub rail on my walker using Sikaflex and sanded plus after 8 coats of sickens applied over the top it will keep the weather out for now.
I think on the side of the tube it states you can give 24 hours to cure first
I had one side badly weathered and a few bumps and pieces out , I was contemplating replacing the timber but it appears to have worked out well. It will give me a few more years. My list of to do thing is to long at the moment

Hi Warwick-The Sika is a difficult one to sand smooth as the sealant tends to move around with the sanding pad and chunks up.

It nearly always stays a bit 'grainey' no matter whether by hand, a random orbital or whatever.
Hand sanding will give a better result however and you could try using a 180 or even 240 grit.

Not being sure of the purpose here,you may have to go over that with a filler and then sand back to smooth?

depends what your filling if its fiberglass use bote coat epoxy its a easy2 part mix then add a sanding filler and mix it in till its like peanut butter constancy.
You have to paint after
But if you want to match gel coat dont use epoxy
fiberglass resin instead and gel cote matched to you fiber glass color
All depends on what your doing as CR said
If you ever use epoxy and sanding filler you don't need a lot of resin more sanding filler is used to thicken up the mix

291 is what I used when I did the rub rail Cr is right it takes a bit to sand it smooth. I had it on hand so I used it
Knowing me I probably started with 80 Grit to get the high spots off.

Sikaflex just does not sand as easy as a hard surface so will persist as now more confident of success

Don't paint it at all as it is not required to be a painted surface as it is slow curing sealant the paint will not adhere to the surface.
