Lot of people still heading north in NSW and may need this info for their planning.

Anybody know what the dates and exclusion area are this year for the Shoal Bay area?

Forget Shoalwater Bay and the Cannibal Group. Not worth visiting unless weather dictates.

Do not miss Port Clinton or Delcomyn Bay. If the army chopper buzzes you, give it the finger.

I went from Rosslyn Bay to Pearl Bay just on the boarder of the training area (beautiful spot that I will recommend for an overnight break if required). Only a small part of the training area was active with the waypoint given on the website already mentioned.

I missed all the islands Cisco mentioned but went onto Middle Percy which in my opinion is an absolute must. Allow two days there especially if you are inclined to go up to the homestead. Take something simple to leave in the A-frame hut as a 'calling card'. I just used a small old fender (Mikado). Spotted Now and Zens momento too but that was the only other one I recognized.

We normally jump from Pearl bay or island head creek to Percy , but If you do get blown off track north of island head creek there is the option of Hunter island , good in 25-30 SE, I wouldn't bother with Hexham etc too much swell rolls around corner .

That's a change, usually they exclude the whole area out to 10nm offshore!

Have I read it right that the exclusion zone is the open water area north west of Townshend Island?
