Yeah, I know you have probably seen videos of ships hitting a bridge.
This one is a little different.

The river Guayas seemed to be in flood, or at any rate it is tidal. Best to wait for slack water rather than drift.
It reminds me of the heeby-jeebies going under the Phillip Island bridge, timing the tides, etc.
Amazing how it dragged the tug.

I'd seen one short vid of that, but not all that extra stuff. That is a cracker! Poor little tug at 0:45 Looks like they all bailed out OK.
So judging by the fact they had a few support vessels helping, and no sign of engine when it hit the bridge, they were trying to move it under the bridge with the current... and failed!

That reminds me of a couple of incidents at the Swansea Bridge. One yacht years ago managed to get pushed onto the bridge by the tide, leaving it shoved sideways onto the pillars while all traffic on the Pacific Highway was stopped for an hour or two. The local TV station got down there and did an interview with the owners while their yacht was holding up the country's main highway. Talk about embarassing.....

Another time was when my boat, along with the rest of the Lake's offshore fleet, was waiting to head through the bridge for a race. One guy was sitting right against the bridge, stern to the bridge and bow to the ebb tide. He was first through when it opened, but only because he was going backwards with his cap shroud catching every projection on the lifting span as he went through, stern first and out of control. The sounds the rigging made were quite interesting. Zoooiiink! Spang! Zoooiiink! Spang! Zooiiiiknk!!! Spang whang!!!! etc
