I'm thinking of creating either a website or Wikipedia page on the Arends 33. I think it would be good to have a solid repository of information about the boat on the internet.

There currently is a Facebook owners site but I don't particularly like Facebook. There also is maritimehippy.com/first-contact-arends-33.html, which is great.
But I if I can gain more data then I would like to build more as a hobby.

Does anyone have a large body of magazines from the 80's with Arends articles they could scan? Or access to other files, or know how I go about searching from Australian magazine archives? The search engines don't produce all that much, mainly boat sales

The national library has at least some sailing magazines from that era. I think you'd need to go into the library to search their electronic catalogue, and then they need to retrieve the issues to request from their stacks. Be best if you knew which mags and issues you are after, as I don't think their catalogue lists the contents of each issue, so it'd be a long slow process finding the articles you want by trawling through all the issues.

Tony Arends (son of John) is semi active on that Facebook group. He might have some leads from the family if you explain what you're trying to do.

Thank you for finding the Arends 36 site, the boat has a few good evolutions.

have heard a rumour there are still two hulls and all the Arends moulds in a shed in the Wyong/Gosford area. I would love to get access to the dodger mould.

I have joined the National Library and requested all the Cruising Helmsman magazines from 1980-84 to the reading room. When they get there I will visit and see what I can find.

What other Australian Magazines were around in the early 1980's which may have Arends articles? I was a little tacker back then.

No Australian Sailing magazines in National Library collection before 1990, unfortunately.

You might find something in Modern Boating. National Library holds Vol. 1, no. 1-v. 14, no. 10Nov. 1965-Aug. 1979,
They also have Seacraft Australian Family Yacht tests - one volume from 1974 (too early?)

Other than that, there're some old issues of Australian Sailing available online at classicyacht.com.au/the-locker/doug-jenkin-library/, Not sure if any of those available include an article on the Arends 33.

Is the Arends deck cored with plywood or is it solid glass?

Anyone have the limit of positive figure for the Arends from a old certificate?

I have yet to drill through the deck so I can't tell you the answer. When I have pulled down the interior lining I didn't notice a plycore deck, but I wasn't looking for it. The coach sides are definitely solid glass with a teak faced plywood secondary bonded as the interior.

I don't know the stability cert, Ron Swanson designed it, perhaps on a Swanson database somewhere.

Don't know if Sydney is better but the State Library of NSW holds what seems to be from the catalogue record a full run of Australian Sailing 1976 -2011. As a newbie I can't post a full link but with the necessary additions this should get you there:
