So we may be mooring our yacht in the river near us soon but the official mooring lines have a waiting list longer than our combined life spans so we will be mooring up river a bit.

Just wondering what measures you use for security while moored?

Obviously we will have the cabin locked and I guess that will have to be enough.

Make sure it isn't the best boat in the area. Don't have expensive gadgets onboard, given away by aerials and various expensive gadgets on the upper decks.
In 20 years of being on moorings in Sydney j never had a problem.

If they want to get in they will.

I don't lock my boat, car or house. They'll just damage more stuff trying to get in (and lets face it, most boats especially with the larger Lewmar style hatches aren't that secure anyway).

I appreciate my preferred practice is not for everyone. But I will go down the road of a Trek Transponder w camera after seeing the quality of the video.

you can only keep the honest people out - there is not a boat afloat that cannot be broken into with a screwdriver

but it's not just break-in's that you need to worry about. boat near us had his s/s barbeque stolen off the back. worst is that when stealing the BBQ they must have decided the RIB looked nice, because little later thieves came back and stole the RIB as well (cut the steel cable lock)

we live aboard so not a big problem but only answer is do what you can and have a good insurance policy

Thanks all. Actually theres been a lot of boats moving marinas to moorings lately that I know of. Including me

Trek, I know we don't do commercial stuff here, but can you give me a ballpark figure on how much that camera/ bilge monitor would cost. $100s I can do, $1000s not so much. And what do I ask for when I go shopping?
