Sea cock stuck open?

I've got the Cav out for the hull redoing and have been told by the surveyor that the right angle bend from the sea dock to the raw water hose should be changed as it's plastic.
I also think the sea cock is stuck open as when I turn the handle the shaft with the nut on doesn't move, would that be right?
Anyway I want to change the sea cock and the plastic right angle but can't find a bronze or brass one at whitworths or the chandlery where the boat is. Would a plumbers merchant have one?
Hoping to get the boat back in the water tomorrow as it's ready been out longer than I wanted.



I want this but in a right angle, it's 1/2 inch internal.
not sure why the first photo is on its side?

You should be able to get both in stainless steel at most plumbing / pump, hardware shops & use a thread sealant like locktite 577 so you can easily have the ball cock handle and the 90 bend facing the way needed

Yep. Go to a hose fitting or hydraulic shop in a large industrial area and you will find what you need in stainless. Call up first.

I would do away with the right angle if at all possible!!

As my through hull is bronze I was under the impression that I couldn't use stainless with it as they are dissimilar metals and could corrode?

Stainless 316 and bronze are positioned pretty close on the galvanic nobility scale
You see bronze props on stainless shafts without much problem in regards to galvanic corrosion.
The main problems I see with stainless steel threaded fittings is crevice corrosion within the threads of the fitting . Corrosion starts in the thread and eats it's way to the outside which leaves a tiny pin hole that weeps rusty muck on the outside of the shining stainless fitting.
Best to seal up the thread best you can to stop a corrosive environment forming within the threads.

For what it's worth that ball valve looks like a nickel plated brass valve, not bronze. Recently been there done that.

Managed to get a brass one from local Pirtek, thanks.
I was told by the guy serving that brass and bronze will be ok together.?

So I've removed the old sea cock and found that it was in fact stuck half open. If I'd not hauled out I'd never have seen this as the handle moved ok, just a little easier than usual. I didn't realise they could do that and it could have been that way for some time so I have to be happy that no hose let go while I wasn't on her.
It came off with no trouble at all despite horror stories from the Marina guy about having to cut the through hull out with a grinder and chisel if it got damaged removing the sea cock.
