Hi Folks, first poster on the forums here...Does anyone know of sailing dinghy hire? I used to dinghy race professionally as a junior, mainly in 125's and Pacers, similar size to 420's, held 2 national titles in teams racing. I'm in my 40's now and don't own any gear, or have the time to chase regattas anymore but would love to take my girlfriend out on the water for a few hours of casual sailing every now and then - even in something simple like a Heron. Professional races in a 125 or Pacer including 2 teams racing national titles - please advise when you did that and how much money you achieved?

When working over in Fremantle for new build ship trials in the mid 80s we hired catamarans off the beach somewhere and had a nice sail for an hour hire. I cannot find the hire company now sorry they might have gone away and done something more profitable..............have done a web search for such hire companies and can't find anything in your range but might be missing something..........in the gin boat range there are some but way out of my league.................

I don't have any details but there was a place on the South Perth foreshore that hired out small cats.

You could try looking at some of the local club websites. I hire a RS Quest from the Canberra yc when I go up there. it's $60 an hour, so not cheap but nice to get sailing when you couldn't otherwise. Perhaps some clubs near you may have similar.

Fun Cat on the South Perth Foreshore just of Coombe St hire cats. I don't know what the clubs may or may not hire except Maryland's have social evenings and if I remember right, if you're a member you can use their mirrors.

Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club have an adult training programme that uses Pacer dinghies and BW8 Keelboats, could be one way to introduce your gitlfriend to sailing. No idea if they hire the yachts out.

The Airlie Beach yacht club hires out RS Quests as well and 2 years ago it was $40 for the whole day. I was so impressed I came home to Sydney and bought one although I don't use it anymore since I bought my yacht and indeed hardly used it at all due to Lockdown. It is for sale if anybody is interested although I haven't advertised it.

Someone I know is racing out of Shelley Sailing Club and is borrowing a yacht from them for the season, but I'm not sure if they do day hire.

Just go to a club and ask what they can offer. Most have Pacers for some sort of Adult learn to sail course and you can now get whats called a "Sail Pass" giving you access for a very small and reasonable fee. The clubs can and will usually be most willing to assist. Depends where you lives as to where may be best for you.
