I am looking for any information anyone has on Red Eagle yachts. There isn't much online, I believe they were made by Hill and Cameron like the Red Witches.

Never seen one. There are hundreds of Redjackets about and plenty of Red Witches and a few Red Barons and after reading about the Red Eagle I would stick to a Red Witch. There are owners of Red Witches on this forum.


"The Red Witch was preceded by the Red Eagle and Red Jacket designs, both of which are very similar to the Red Witch, but substantially slower. The Red Eagle is longer, narrower, has a longer cockpit and a higher cabin roof, more similar to the Red Jacket than the Red Witch. Also developed by Hill and Cameron in the mid-1970s was the Red Baron catamaran at 5.99 m LOA with a 2.63 m beam, 0.30 m draft, displacement of 352 kg and sail area of 13.8 m2. The Red Baron was designed by Neil Fowler of Darwin."

I took this photo in 1969 in Perth when Redjackets was being launched at a ramp. They were everywhere at the time.

Dont know about red eagle yachts, but Ramona that is a great photo of life back in the day! Is that at an older version of the Matilda Bay boat ramp, next to Royal Perth YC?

Someone has given me a Red Eagle (haven't collected her yet) looks almost identical to a Red Jacket just longer. I was trying to find info on draft ect.

Pretty sure it was. There were several Redjackets being launched there at the time. The photo shows the real disadvantage of launching fin keel yachts before someone dreamed up extension bars.

No luck, the book lists Red Baron, Red Jacket & Red Witch. No info on Red Eagle.

Looking at photos of the Red Eagle, my guess is that they would have the same draft as a Red Jacket, which is 0.67m / 2 ft 3".

The following used to be included in the Wikipedia Red Witch article, until someone deleted it:

I presumed they would have the same draft. I'm away at the moment, someone has donated her to me I just have to pick her up from the Marina when I get back. I was just trying to find out what I was getting into.

The Red Jacket is a license-built version of the Per Brohal designed Stortriss Mk 1 from Sweden, if that helps. Googling Stortriss gives you a bit of info.

The info I can remember reading was that the Eagle was a Jacket with just a couple of feet added to the stern and cockpit. I think I've seen a pic in an ad in my collection of old mags that would confirm it, but it's probably stuck in the roof in the garage of our place in Canberra.

For some reason I was looking through some old Canberra YC mags on the web the other day and I think I came across a reference to a mate (a former Flying 15 national champ) borrowing a Red Jacket and winning the ACT trailer yacht championships with it. That would have been a way to make an impact!
