Hi, friends of mine have the Raymarine wind wireless transducer on their J88 and have found it to be pretty flakey. Every second time we're out racing it seems to spit the dummy and loose the connection and then the whole thing has to be turned off and turned on again.

I have the wired version but I have a wireless raymarine radar that is close to the helm and that's been fine

Wireless radar? Plotter maybe.
I have these instruments and will write what I think later when I get home.

Yep the latest Raymarine radars are wireless. I'm in the process of getting an Element 9 installed and from the installation manual Supports wireless Quantum radar scanner connection

Ah yes, looks like wireless radars have been around for a while.
Anyhow we put TackTik on the boat before Raymarine bought them out. They didn't work great in the beginning and we had lots of problems like what 2bish said. They would just stop working and you would have to turn them off and on again. Only takes seconds but thats long seconds when you are racing.
You also need to keep the instruments charged. They have little solar panels on the actual instrument. If these aren't in the sun they don't charge. It means we stopped covering the instruments and they deteriorate quicker. We had to change some after about 5 years. This is in the Med and not harsh Australian sun as well. But they should stay charged better in Oz. Also when doing longer passages if the weather was bad they would turn off at night because they hadn't charged enough during the day. The mast head unit also has a solar panel and battery. Makes a big difference when the panel is clean and you will have to change the battery one day. We have only changed it once.
They have got a lot better over the years. The batteries seem to last longer and the new instruments seem to be lasting better in general.
We had to move the main CPU and WiFi box around a bit until we found a spot where it all worked well.
We used it because the B&G wasn't out then.
We rarely have problems with it now. I have limited experience with the new B&G Nexus system so can't compare.

Quick family interruption and I'm back.
I guess it really depends on what you do and what you want. Its not B&G. Its slower and the B&G is set up for sailing so you get more sailing options. If you are just cruising and want a quick and "easy"( nothing is easy on a sailboat) installation I would say it's OK.
Here it is a lot cheaper as well.
Depends if you already have some systems or are starting from scratch.
Like I said we rarely have problems with it now and it just means turning it off and back on again. Pretty simple compared to messing with B&G. Calibration, setting up etc is pretty straight forward.
The whole system with the auto pilot,plotter and being able to use your phone or a tablet as a repeater works well. I am sure the B&G does this as well.

From my experience with wireless wind setups...
Don't touch the Garmin with someone else's 10ft pole. Installed 3 of them for clients and none worked!
Raymarine seems ok for boats up to 10m but can be plagued with issues. S/S mastheads, solid dodgers etc can also cause hassles.
B&G system seems the best as far as I know

Have a 10 m yacht and pretty much a blank canvass to work on. I am guessing the B&G auto pilot the goods as well ?
