Is it just me or the days I pick to sail or is my recollection of my younger days incorrect. I expect Nor'easterly breezes in summer in Sydney but we seem to be experiencing anything but and indeed a lot of winds with a Southerly component.

North Easterly winds before Christmas and SE winds after with a Southerly change every 4 or 5 days. BOM has a section showing what winds to expect from history. A howling Westerly like I'm expecting Saturday is not the norm!

Nah, not just you Jules. Used to be you'd get 4 or 5 days of NE before a southerly change but just doesn't seem to happen any more , no idea why, maybe the expansion of the city is changing the way the city heats up and mucking up the breeze patterns.

I'm up on Pittwater and really, most of the southerly changes have fizzed by the time they get here. Now our stronger breezes are westerlies or from East Coast Lows...

Edit: another thing I'm seeing is an offshore NE'er but it doesn't cross the coast far.

It's the seawater temperature offshore at the moment. Off most of the Northern coast of NSW the temperature is 4 degrees above normal. It's 27 degrees C in a lot of places. Even the river here is luke warm.
