I think I made a derogatory comment on here about Paynesville when I drove through out of curiosity last winter on the way to pick up my trailer sailer. Seemed pretty dead and depressing to me at the time.

Spent a week down here now its summer at the invitation of a guy who has exactly the same TS as me and and having a fantastic time. Free public pens available right in the middle of town for just stopping in or staying a couple of days and the place is a hive of boating activity. It is one of many boat-friendly Towns around the Gippsland Lakes (which are quite extensive) and we have been sailing to a new one each day.
Went to a pretty much deserted place with a pier called Steamers Landing today and walked 50 m over a sand dune onto 90 mile beach which was deserted for a nice view out across the Tasman /Bass Straight which looked pretty benign today with a nice breeze for sailing although no Yachts in view out to sea.
Flew the assymetric for 15 uninterrupted miles on one tack on Tuesday.

There are yachts available for hire and of course plenty of boat ramps or access from the sea via Lakes Entrance. There are even plenty of keel yachts here but you would have to be a little careful about depth. Trailer sailers are ideal and the lakes are more extensive than I realised.

Much nicer and sandier than Lake Macquarie plus larger.

Highly recommended.

And don't forget Jules, as well as Steamers and such, just off Paynesville is Raymond Island. It has koalas everywhere, just walk around and you go, "There's one, there's another", lots of nice classic putt putts on the piles in the channel too. I will have to go back with the trailer boat too, we just kayaked last time.

Jules did the Clubman TS down there have the fore hatch drain channel corner cracking like yours did? As per prior post? If so what rectifications were done? As per your prior post? Did you solve this with added lateral beam and added fibre each side? regards Rob

Hi Bob,

Yes the Clubman we are on has the same problem as does another down here but no fix has been attempted.

There is yet a further Clubman down here ATM but I didn't have a chance to inspect it before an out of control power boat crushed its transom as per the attached pics. It was just sitting in a public pen in town with its rear end just outside the pylons. Mortifying for the owner especially as it was the best Clubman I have seen with mine being second.

Yes the bean I glassed in stopped the flexing on mine but the thin cracks in the gel coat in the rain channels have yet to be fixed properly. I have now seen another clubman with a beam such as I glassed in.

Yes we have done that plus sails to and walks around Metung, Lakes Entrance and Locksport. (The latter name sounding funny to me after having visited Lockport on the Erie Canal in NY).

My host has been fantastic particularly as I only met him last May when he showed me my boat in VIC on the behalf of the widow who sold it to me.

Mind you I did find him a temporary mooring on Pittwater and take him and his partner for a couple of sails on my NS38 earlier later last year as well as meeting up with him when we both trailed our boats to QLD thereafter although he only went to Tin Can Bay whilst we continued to Airlie Beach.

Nice that sailing begets friends like that and particularly it seems the TS community.

Great place to sail. We take out TS there regularly. Sorry to see the damage to the Clubman. Hopefully insurance takes care if it.

Hello Julian - thanks for this rapid feedback, great that your beam solution is similar to what others have done. Glory that is such a shame that transom damage - owner must be beside himself. Trust the power boat's insurance can cover 100% of the cost of a high class repair in a suitable timing. regards Rob
